Explain that a bit more...please..
Bernie.
OK, I'll try with photos

This one shows the rope through the awning looped the rope already in the sail track, pulling the rope at the end of the sail track while feeding the awning material into the sail track ..... not very successful, kept bunching up the awning material on the rope because the rope was trying to pull through without the awning
Winnie awning pulling the rope 2.jpg
Attempt two. Vice grips on awning material and a doubled length of elastic cord to act as the tensioner
Winnie awn pull through the track 1.jpg
Fence post used as a pulley winch redirect
Winnie awn pull through the track 2.jpg
Winch on Gypsy trailer used to apply tension
Winnie awn pull through the track 3.jpg
Winch until elastic stretched, pull rope through as guide in sail track, direct awning material into sail track

There were a few more bits required, because I didn't have a nice shed to work in and the wind only died down long enough to con me into getting started, then changed direction
This was to bunch the awning together and pull it over the roof so the wind didn't turn it into a kite

and
The other end of the awning secured at the rear so it didn't get caught in the wind and sail right over the roof

The towel with the knot in the end is for when the wind catches the door and swings it open against the side of the body ..... there are a number of fibreglass repairs needed already where the door hit the corner of the bin door when it was open

Terry, on our Winny, the previous owner fitted a hook and saddle gizmo to stop the outer door from trying to bear itself to death.
He also removed the little gas strut from the top of the door.

Yeah, the wind didn't think that was sufficiently secure, so it ripped the screws out holding the hook part on the door, slammed it shut, the next time it was opened, swung it back unto the edge of the bin door, digging yet another hole in the door ....

So the towel became the go to temporary fix, it is trapped between the flyscreen door and the main door, so when the door swings wide open in the wind, the knot in the towel saves the louvre windows from being shattered ....

Were the gas tanks broken Dottie?
I thought when you went to fill them up then discovered a "leak" half way i thought it was a "hole" in the tank itself. My bad

That 21st century dinosaur poop sure sets fast, and just like the dog dropping on the front lawn, it appears to turn white in the sun .... Other things do that as well

I can see the wind would be a mongrel to work in
I'm set up to be feeding and pulling the awning through at the same height as the rope track...AND .. hopping I don't have the problem your having... time will tell..

I can't remember how I fitted mine, but I did it by myself.

Terry, can you loosely roll the material on the barrel and then sit it on a trolley.

As it's threaded up the track, wheel the trolley along too.

A long post, your call if you want to read it or not ......

That would have worked well without the wind .... that was gusting at 80km/h, that played havoc with actually doing anything but inching it along and keeping tension on the loose end .....

It was way too heavy for me to lift it up more than one end at a time when it was on the drum, so I had to separate the drum into it's three pieces to get it off the awning sheet.

Between Margaret, Brian and myself, we actually got it threaded all the way on the sail track, didn't get the last piece attached to the wall so that is sort of hanging in the wind.
Then, between us, we threaded the bits of the drum onto the awning, attached it to the arms and folded them back against the Winnie, so the awning hangs down between it and the drum, spends half it's time over the roof and the other hanging over half the door

Tried to get up on the ladder this morning, to secure the last piece of sail track, no sooner stepped on the top wrung and the wind reappeared ..... so, now I'm doing the inverter install that we have been postponing for 6 mths or more ..... I'll then use Shaun as my assistant to finish the awning install, I think poor Brian was burnt out after yesterdays efforts

Knocked myself around a tad too much yesterday, the body aches and the headache just wouldn't shift, by 4pm I was back in bed for a few hrs

I did make some progress on the inverter install and battery trouble shooting for our yard guest ..... he did the work, I just tried to get my brain to problem solve and design how the inverter could be mounted and where the cabling could be run.

While I had my sleep, the yard guest made up bits, like the 90mmsq cable he brought with him, under instruction on how to fit the crip lugs on the cables ....

Had to do a re-crimp on them all to tighten them up as he didn't realise he couldn't over pressure crimp them .... but, it will be his arms and shoulders hurt tonight and tomorrow rather than mine ;) 8-)

Hopefully, I wake up feeling better tomorrow morning, so I can get back into what is still left to do on re-installing this awning, and getting the temp sensor fitted in the oil cooler/heat exchanger return hose, then I can put the coolant back in and start it up again
