I've been a Labour voter most of my life, and i was a little disappointed a few years ago when it all turned to shite for Bill Shorten. I had thought that Chris Bowen would have made a better choice. Flock me, I'm glad that didn't happen. I am terribly disappointed in how things have transpired. I don't think I will ever understand why we need to sell all our gas to overseas markets and have a bit less than nothing when we have a decent storm somewhere. Its all good with solar renewables until it all turns to shite after a week of no sun. I believe that it is reasonable to have an alternative supply available.
Australia still has plenty of gas reserves available, so why don't we utilise them, instead of selling them of to overseas interests.⁰

We've just clocked up 80,000km in the little Supercar (Suzuki Baleno Turbo 1.1l, bought new) and 39,000km (28,000 of which is ours) on the Isuzu MU-X (3.0l Turbo Diesel.)
Previous Honda Civic racked up 230,000km before we sold it — still purring nicely.
Both Supercar and Isuzu are still running sweetly, and serviced at the appropriate intervals.
As Jack Brabham's mechanic, Ron Tauranac said after two F1 races without tearing down the engine for a rebuild:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
No car replacements in our forseeable future (barring accidents)… so no EVs.![]()

I think you will find it was little Jonny Howard that signed off all our gas to China a rock bottom prices that couldn't be renegotiated upwards ...... all our gas is still contracted to be sold for bugger all to China.......supersparky wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 9:58 pm I've been a Labour voter most of my life, and i was a little disappointed a few years ago when it all turned to shite for Bill Shorten. The gas reserves that have already been fracted, are under contract. We already have aquafers either lost or polluted, gas bubbling up in creeks and rivers where the bedrock has been fractured, do you really want more fracking ...... that is the only way they are going to get more gas to the surface. If you remove the gas pressure holding things in balance, the underground basin will be filled with something, the water that was in the upper layers is the most substance to replace it ...... when the water seal on top is lost, the remaining low pressure gas finds its way to the surface ....
When we have more renewable electricity than we can use, we should be storing it for times when we don't have good sun, not often the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow.
They are just doing the finishing touches on the Mannum battery farm, LFP chemistry cells from Canada to store the solar energy they harvest when they can't sell it to the grid.
We have the technology to make synthetic methane by combining carbon dioxide from the air with hydrogen, when it is burnt, the carbon dioxide is again released .... not additional carbon, just recycled.
How many stored heat lakes for thermal power generation, abandoned quarries and mines that could be utilised for pumped hydro, how many salt water to hydrogen to methane plants could have been built, for the money that has been thrown into Snowy 2.0 ? It was supposed to be operational already, it has had so many cost blow outs, failures and cave ins, does anyone know when it will be finished or if it will ever be finished .... and what the final cost will be?

Dot, hope you're not asleep on the recliner! Maybe some sleep is better than none. xxxx
Haven't any of you researched modern coal burning power stations. The reason our coal burners are so bad is that they were built in the 50's to the standard then. We still have a shed load of coal under the ground and can build machinery with much newer, cleaner technology that will not pollute our towns like they do currently. I remember Chernobyl and know that I will not be happy with any nuclear anywhere near my home and apparently, the cost of this is ridiculous. Stick with the devil that we know and make it a heck of a lot less damaging to the environment. We already have a gas fired station near us, for emergency use only. It costs so much for the gas, it is ridiculous.
My day was busy, as usual, and ended up with a huge baked chooken for dinner with a ton of veggies. The chook will last for a few meals, because I won't be cooking tomorrow night.
Second cataract will be done tomorrow, so have a long day ahead.
night all xxx

Hi Deborah, all the best for tomorrow's op, all will be good this time tomorrow. I had to have hypnotherapy to be able to have the eye drops done. Not even the surgeon could get to inspect my eyes let alone putting my own drops in BUT it worked wonders. Oh boy am I extra sad and sorry for myself after yesterday's outside gardening work I woke with a sore back, legs are burning with pain so I had 2 hot showers and G man had the job of spraying the Pain away and then rubbing the affected areas with the cream that supposedly gets right to the pain
Hope to be better tomorrow. Another reason to downsize as G man also is feeling the aches and pains. Hope all that are feeling off get better soon. Goodnight everyone x
Goodnight Darryl and Annette x

I can't believe how any Gov can be held accountable for selling any 'product' to China or anywhere else?
The Gov doesn't own a darn thing any more & very little ever.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Dave, T1 & all,
One technology which seems to have been forgotten is wave/tidal generation.
CSIRO has proven the tech works, and it’s cheap and easy to manufacture.
It’s installed underwater, so no opportunity for NIMBYs to scream “visual pollution!”
AND it’s reliable.
The only way it can fail is mechanically (unlikely due to its simplicity) or if the moon decides to leave its orbit (also unlikely).
As Australia is ‘girt by sea’ there’s a zillion places where it could be installed.
With tides operating 24/7 the need for huge battery plants is eliminated, as relatively small generators could be dotted all over the coast, where 95% of Australians live.
Then we’d only need solar or wind generators inland — probably with smaller batteries.
