Be a good chance for you to train it to walk on the lead and come when called.
Should not take more than a week and then when the owners come home they can stuff it all up again
I am leaving Crystal Brook and off to Quorn in the morning and then Saturday of north into the land of no communications with a bit of luck.
All play fair when I am away and hopefully I will come out the other side in mid August and all will still be here.
Regards
Brian.

Looks like Macs is a Kelpie?
Very smart dogs but very much need humans to be in charge of them. The behaviour you describe is very similar to our neighbour's Kelpie who has been exceptionally spoilt, being a childless couple's surrogate offspring. Even sharing their bed etc. when I've dog sat I have spent a deal of time 'taking charge' for the sake of it, just to get the message across. I can now walk her through a paddock of sheep with her at heel without a leash. This was a revelation to the owner who tries with her on a leash pulling constantly, indicating she wants to chase. As a consequence the owner has now taken her to sheepdog training & obedience training. Of course this trains the owner as much, if not more than the dog.
Now after a couple of months the dog is far happier amongst stock with the owner in charge. Stops & sits when told, & most importantly constantly looks to the owner for instruction, indicating she wants to work & WANTS to be told what to do.

The dog needs routine. Lots of little things, like for example, expecting it to sit before every time it goes through a gate, gets in the car, has it's food etc etc. They are a pack animal, & are reassured by the owner/you being their leader.

If it continues to run off someone will shoot it. I love dogs, but would not hesitate to shoot an unknown dog chasing my sheep.

In 10 weeks you could make a real difference, & after a short time make life a lot easier for yourselves too.

Just my thoughts, feel free to discard.

Ps. Hi Brian. :)

Leaving Alice Springs this morning to head to Curtin Springs and a rendezvous with Macca (Kay and Bruce) and another couple. We will travel together across the Great Central Road to WA departing on Thursday. Hopefully we leave Murphy behind!
Cheers

Not liking the sound of the fuel costs, but have to put up with this sometimes. Keep travelling well
Wait till you get to Barkley Homestead $2.12 and Three Ways $2.15 yet Tennant Creek $1.62 with 4c pensioner discount. These prices were around the end of may.
"Recycled Teenagers", John, Shirley and Four legged person Beau, travelling in a 7m Isuzu bus towing a trailer. Enjoying the fellowship of the road
