Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Just had the Battery Man here replacing one of Girt’s vehicle batteries… 18 months after having both replaced!
Man says running it at idle for 15~20 minutes once a month is not enough to keep them in top shape.
One died & put all the work onto the other, which decided to go on strike, demanding higher voltage. Fortunately I have access to a heavy duty charger.
Surviving battery is at 90% state of health according to BM’s testing gadget… some good news, at least.
Problem came to light when I did a test-run before taking a prospective buyer for a test-drive. Only just managed to light the fire.
Decided I couldn’t sell her with a problem I know about, so called in the expert, who told me one battery OK but I should book a funeral for the other one.
Pity I can’t add another $200+ to the asking price… ☹️
Gotta wear it as part of maintenance. Warranty on heavy vehicle batteries is 12 months.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Were they flooded cell type or AGM? Is the starter 12v or 24v? If it was 24v then it needs a battery balancer to shift the over charged part of one battery to the under charged battery. Either way, if you charge each 12v battery to 14.8v once every 3 mths, you will get a much longer life out of them ..... not that you care, once it's out of sight it's his problem ;)

Ray, good luck with the sale.

Half completed fitting a new timing belt to the territory today. I hate timing belts, as it's a moment of truth when you turn the key.
Now, just to reassemble. But that can wait for tomorrow.

T1,
Sealed batteries with side terminals.
Flooded or AGM? Dunno. 12v system.
So long as it kicks Girt into action I don’t know or care.
Like you say, once she’s sold… 😀

Good morning. It was a beautiful day here, if you could keep out of the wind. Spent the first half of day running around doing errands and the second half washing, packing and loading the Winny for a long weekend trip out to Dalveen.
We will leave just after morning peak. Apparently it might get up to 8° out there, so have packed a few warm clothes.
Good luck with the timing belt Jon, did you put a new crank seal in.
Safe travels everybody.
Cheers
