Good morning everyone from Coonabarabran. It's a fresh 3° here right now . We'll be on the road around 8am heading for the warmth of coastal Qld. It was a reasonably quiet night considering we are only a hundred metres or so from the Newell Hwy.
Safe travels everybody.
Shirley, we thought they had opened up the showgrounds too, but the only gate that I know was locked when we went past.
Good morning daily

Good morning All. 11* and cloudy here with Council workers out the back to do the work required to stop water overflowing our retaining wall which I advised them of over 12 months ago. I have a feeling i am going to rue the day I complained about the problem as I get the feeling that after they finish it will be difficult to mow the area that I have been mowing for the last 25 or so years. They haven't started doing anything yet, just standing around outside their caravan talking.

Re: Good morning daily
Common in all two shaft style gearboxes, quite likely you will find the hardened facing on one or more faces has suffered brinelling https://www.rexnord.com/blog/articles/b ... 0of%20wear.
and this is chewing up the needle roller bearings. The cause of this is often found else where, the spigot bearing in the flywheel failing allowing for cutch mis-alignment and this is putting out of alignment stress on the bearing between the two shafts, a bellhousing or gearbox mis=alignment, and input bearing either starting to fail or an alignment problem or the main box output bearing is failing ......
but
the symptoms of this failure is the noise going away in direct drive (generally 5th gear is these 6 speed overdrive boxes) but most noticeable in the very low gears because the input shaft speed and output shaft speed are at the maximum rpm difference. In direct drive there is no rpm difference between the input shaft and the output shaft .....
This sounds more like it is coming from the rear of the gearbox, either the main shaft output bearing, the cluster-shaft end bearing or a bearing in the very end of the extension housing ..... if the extension housing is long, they often add a bearing very close to the end of the shaft to keep it from developing a whipping action and shearing the shaft at the main shaft rear bearing circlip groove ......jon_d wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 7:57 am Morning all.
Well Bernie,.... the gearbox has started to make some funny noises. Like China plate clinking constantly in 5th and 6th on forward motion. Back off and all is quiet. All quiet in the other gears as best as I can listen.Good to hear your still traveling north Jon.
After speaking to Dave, we're going to meet at Cowra tomorrow to get a second opinion. However, give the difficulty of trying to fix it if something goes wrong, I've decided to bail.
Morning all at Wellington.
No idea with the gearbox you have as to whether the extension housing can be removed without stripping the whole gearbox ... it really depends on how the sector shaft for the over drive 6th gear is set up as whether the fork can be removed from the selector shaft as the extension housing is slide back ......
The take away is, don't leave it too long, if it is the bearing in the extension shaft housing in the process or failing, it only requires the ball race cage to fail, allowing all the ball bearing to collect on one side instead of evenly spaced around the bearing, and the output shaft will fracture and fail at that circlip grove I mentioned earlier .....

Morning all.
Good move Jon.
I had another frustrating episode with the chainsaw...so it's with the neighbor, he rang and said it's a fuel problem...and the cost to me is oranges...seems he like them
and we have two trees full of them.
I have dug another garden bed with added chook poo and mushroom compost and cow poo.
I will let it sit for a week or so then dig it over again...then plant, haven't decided yet what I will put in?
Carol had a win at bingo
not that I get to see it.
I had two things arrive by post...a new shower wand for the bus and those grommets that the trivets sit in on the stove top. Now I have o make a holding thingy for the new wand ..it's bigger than what was there.
You get home Dave?
Keep safe out there.

Re: Good morning daily
Good morning everyone. We arrived home late yesty arvo.
Had a big drive from Coonabarabran to the Gold Coast.
Had a couple of stops along the way. Was knackered when we arrived, so plug into power and unloaded the trailer and that's about it. Had a feed then hit the sack. Terrie has some medical stuff today. Then we'll unload and clean up.
Safe travels everybody, have a great day.

Morning Folks.
I had a sorta busy day, I did make a holder for the new shower wand thingy, made from plastic conduit. It will suffice for now.
A bit more gardening and shed cleaning I even found stuff I wasn't looking for
Chainsaw still with the neighbor.
Did you get home safe Jon???
Bernie.

Arvo one and all, settled into the "little" Yorktown cp, no room to put the awning out, we just squeezed into the biggest site, ;0 man in front will have to move his 4x4 for us to get out, we are hemmed in so to speak, but the place is clean and tidy and very quiet. Wind has started to pick up and may get rain later on.
