I've got one Shonky........ works very well.
To comment on your unit would be foolish of me without knowing your COMPLETE electrical setup.
battery setup, solar setup, items using 12V etc etc.

Adminperson - seems you just fit them off the alternator, then run them direct to the batteries, regardless of other input or battery type.

Shonky can you give us a bit of a run down on what your system looks like?
Seperate batteries for engine or 'house'?
Solar panels?

The "smart start" unit works simply by monitoring your engine battery & once that is fully charged it clicks through to connect your house batteries as well (via the alternator).

Hi Terry thanks for your advice. the ford alternator is 130 amp I beleive and the the inverter is a 600 watt calibre brand from supercheap. Do you think it might be wise to order the 20 amp charger instead? Thanks again Dave

HI, all.

Adminperson - the bus has 2x135w panels,and the charge is routed through a Prostar 30amp regulator, initially to the start battery, then to the 2x120amp AGMs. We also have a Projecta 25amp charger.
We might have the wiring to the fridge replaced first to see if the amp draw is materially improved.

I think I'd have the solar going straight into the house batteries ONLY.
Not much point wasting it into the start batteries. (IMO)
A light set of jumper leads from an auto shop makes good wiring for the fridge!!!
