Why not go diesel/electric HWS like Webasto thermo top?
When I fitted out the Oka used diesel cooktop and diesel HWS/space heating, no gas at all. Seemed to make sense when it was diesel powered.
Excess solar on most days can be used to heat the HWS so no need to use the diesel either.
We use a 1 litre 1000w electric jug for a cuppa and a normal Sunbeam toaster for toast.

Already bought the suburban so got to use it now. Diesel didn't cross my mind at the time.

dirk,
Does your unit have the 240vac option fitted? The electric operation is still an option worth considering if you have the dual lpg/elect unit. Bob & Bev have just set there inverter and 240v unit up, maybe Bob will post something on it later

Already bought it. Never considered diesel HWS unfortunately. Did hear the diesel stoves are a bit smelly though. Wouldn't have worried with the HWS though.

Re: Suburban HWS
Hi All, Thanks to Terrys help in tweeking the inverter its up and running, Yesterday I gave it a full run and it took 15-20 mins to get the water to 55deg.( 22 lt Suburban gas n 240) to cyl. off. I have a temp probe touching the hot water cyln. and read it from inside the van. The 1500/3000 PSW inverter I would say is running at its max all almost. It did buzz once, I think a bit warm.T1 Terry wrote:dirk,

It pulled 125 amps , Thinking it could be replaced back in the battery in 1.5 hours at 25 amp charge from the solar. In full sun it was charging 28-33 amps while the inverter was running. With 700 watts on the van roof useing a PL40...Into a 200 LiFePo4 battery. And it runs the micro wave easy....
Im thinking it maybe better to do 3- 5 min. runs rather than one 15 min long run, would be easier on the battery, with a 5 min break in between each..?? The battery volts started at 13.4 and didnt go below 12.8 after 15 mins. running a 1440 watt element. Went back to 13.1 right away at switch off. I would get a 2000/4000 watt inverter if I had to do a rerun... Room in the van boot was the factor...A MH wouldnt have this problem.....
Bob n Bev.....
