I just purchased this on, under 150 bucks.

This guy's a wealth of information.

So I purchased these as well, cos most of these heaters come without an air filter and a restrictive muffler.

The above muffler is quieter apparently.

"tanks" here---
Is there any reason one of these heaters should not be used to heat a large room in the house or even part of a shed ?.
It would be a lot less expensive than running the reverse cycle air-con. The 12 volt would not be a problem with a 12 volt battery and charger to supply the electrics for the heater.

Probably wouldn't be as cheap as a 240v blow heater, most of them are 2000w & you can buy them for $20 or less but yes reckon a diesel air heater would do the job too.

Don't know if it would be cheaper than running one of the newer inverter type reverse cycle air conditioners. Be great for a shack in the bush, but then I guess you'd have a wood fire I'm guessing.

Interesting fact about the Webasto; an attached computer can read total hours switched on, number of those hours that the burner has been operating, every occasion the burner failed to start and the reason why, every time it stopped functioning and the reason why, etc., and every other fault. Ian at Roof Rack City in Gilbert Street, Adelaide is extremely knowledgeable on Webasto and happy to share his knowledge. He produced the printout from when he serviced my Webasto on August 16th, 2016 - even though I took the Motorhome to Mike Griggs Caravans at Klemzig - it turns out that Mike Griggs Caravans enlists Ian to do their Webasto servicing. Also, Ian was able to tell me that he has had several instances with the Winnebago Longreach where the Webasto fault turned out to be poor setup of the 3 deep cycle batteries when they were originally wired in parallel. He has suggested that if I clean all of the terminals and make sure bolts, washers, nuts, etc., are clean, flat and tight then my Webasto faults might disappear. He is confident there is nothing wrong with the Webasto, just the power supply.

Tanks,
you would have to ensure the exhaust was vented to the outside of the building, and wherever it passed through a wall (don't recommend using a window), you'd have to seal it well with fireproof sealant (cement?).
From what I have seen of ours in Girt, air is drawn from inside and split, some going to the burner then external exhaust, the rest passing through a heat-exchanger sleeve around the burner, before being returned to the room.
Very simple, compact piece of engineering... in principle. ;)
Ours has the exhaust through the floor (with fireproof Silastic-y stuff sealing around the pipe) then following the inbuilt generator's exhaust to the side of the vehicle.
It could be done, but unless properly installed (read: $$$$) might either not work efficiently or be dangerous (Carbon Monoxide buildup)... or both!
Probably simpler to buy a $20 Aldi 240v fan heater.................................................

All except for the dodgie units in some of the grey import Toyota mini buses, the burner air and exhaust is via the 2 pipes under neither the unit and designed to be outside. The inside air in/out is a separate fan that blows the air across the outside of the furnace casing. As long as there are no holes in the furnace casing and the exhaust pipe is secure, there should be no chance of the exhaust or carbon monoxide entering the vehicle inside .... well except through a window open near the exhaust

The furnace exhaust and inlet are completely seperate. These are the two pipes underneath the unit and must be vented to outside.

The heat exchange is done using the same fan motor. The extended shaft drives a second fan blade which draws cool room air (from one end of the heater) over the furnace casing and then is pushed out the other end. (That's why there are is a hole at each end of the heater.)
