Would that be Dongas? I hope so.

I was wondering if they were going to use them as small tent poles or string a canvas across a frame made out of them.

Yes Dongers Steve. I have rellies & friends who will have to use them. Friend had things of their son who died at 18 ( our son's class at HS) of Meningococcal & now they have nothing to remind them of their son. Still shedding tears here.

Yes I know it is a really terrible event that has just happened and I'm sure everyone on this forum has deep thoughts for those people who are effected.
I still can't fully understand why a lot of people didn't move a lot of their belongings out of there?
Honestly, I'm sure if you turned up with a trailer load of valuables at someone's house up the side of a hill somewhere, (there are lots of them not far away) that they would gladly let you park it somewhere or even let you unload it so you could go grab more. Most of these people had 3 or 4 days notice.
Rockhampton is just copping it today. They had a weeks notice. Surely their houses are empty?
I saw on TV cars flooded and left on streets. Why? Sorry... it's beyond me!

Not wishing to make light of the predicament your friends are in, and they have my sympathy, the issue was in the spelling - there are dongers and dongas. Dongas are the things you live in. Dongers live elswhere - when they can.

I am very aware of that Dot but just get cranky with myself when I do stupid things. As you say I should be in bed. Just found my previous flood heights for Bundy. Many of these homes should never have been built where they were. 1890 flood was 9.9.

Maybe no rules about buiilding in these places way back when, but no excuse for councils to allow this to happen in this day & age.
