With mine, the book said what diameter copper to get.
Got the cutters and tube off ebay.
Fitted it all up and then the AC man to do the final bits.
flush the tubes with nitrogen, then suck it down and hold. then released the gas. Cost about $140 from memory plus the copper and cutters.
I'd recommend doing the tube work and bits and pieces yourself. It will cost a small fortune for a person to do it because its not a job they are used to and will do it rough.

The movement between a rubber mounted outside unit and the fixed piping via mounts to the bus body was my major concern. After reports of many split systems failing when used while travelling and seeing the destruction inside a heap of roof top rattlers caused by rigid pipe work, I chose flexible hoses and crimp fittings to suit. It made the job really easy, just put the fitting on where they had to go, ran the hoses and cut off the length and pushed them into the fittings, double checked the hoses fitted how I wanted and marked hose to fitting location to make sure I had the bends facing the right way and to make sure I got the correct ends on the correct hoses. Removed the hoses complete with fittings, crimped them at the correct angles, put them back on and vacced down the system, made sure it held vacuum and then opened up the taps to allow the stored gas in the outside unit to fill the system. Let it run and watched how far up the pipe the frost formed, about a hand span seemed about right, needed to vent a bit of gas, then away it went for a few yrs. The second yr the pipe hardly froze at all, the second yr the system wasn't really up to scratch, by the 3rd yr it didn't seem to work very well at all. Couldn't see the value in paying for a regas for a bus that wasn't going anywhere so it sat for quite a while, now it's over here in Mannum and summer is around the corner it might be time to have a crack at gassing it myself. As there are no real laws regarding HC gas as it is not a CFC or HFC that have strict regulations regarding their use by those licenced, I can't see any reason to pay someone to do something I can legally do myself.

Hi Terry
You're right about the laws, the only time you need a qualified fridgie is to de gas the old unit, if it's all leaked out ok.
If you need any regassing gear I have it including a bottle of HyChill refrigerant. You only need half the amount of gas to recharge as R134a.
