Hello there, it is dam hot today here in suburban Mt Isa 32.1 in the bus with 2 air cons going and my pussy is on the floor . Turned on the comp and there are pretty lines going about a third of the way down the screen and also down the right side. Hardley normal said take it to xwz, did that can't do it, ring HP help line so going to do that now. Heading off tomorrow so may have a weird computer for a while. C U x

Dot go to just about any shop (Target, BigW or electrical ) & grab a HDMI cable so you can plug it into the laptop and the TV.
That way if you lose your screen all together, you will still get it on your TV.
Measure how long you'll need .......... Might be 2metres? (so you can still sit on your 'throne')
Not likely to be the video card........ just the screen.

Yes as Bruce said our laptop done the same and I used a hdmi cable till it was repaired .

Thanks Bruce, G is going down the street tomorrow to get a lead. I wonder why the so called "experts" didn't bother to mention that?? The tech help line of HP was disgusting to say the least, after using up nearly all of our mob ph $$ I had to ring them back to ask why had they not done as they said what that would do by an email? When the overseas person said they would put me through to the tech dept I yelled NO NO NO do not put me on the loop again as there is no more $$ left on my ph" told them to ring me". and on it went and went still with no answer so will wait till we get to a bigger town and during working week..
Cooled down now but what a stinker of a day it was.
