Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Good morning.
Yes Dot..Ellie done well especially with a PB...talks a million miles tho😁.
I have only flat towed with a Suzuki Grand Vitara, only twice did I have to disconnect, once at Jon's place the other when I went passed the dump point in SA... and a dead end street😡😡 We are now thinking of a tilta trailer...we can then use Carol's car when travelling.
We have full replacement for our house insurance, we don't have household goods insurance.
Some good news... they found my missing parcel...and to be delivered today...
Nothing else happened yesterday... Carol won at bingo 😁
Keep safe everyone.
Bernie.

Does your Jimny have the dog clutch on the rear tailshaft and free wheeling hubs on the front? Still tossing up between doing the dog clutch on the rear drive shaft or upgrading to a Sierra transferbox and the two stick conversion that adds a 2WD low range but adding a dog clutch to the front drive shaft .....
Wouldn't it be easier just buying something that works with no frigging around. ... You're running out of time to travel.
There, I've said it. Off my chest now.
We don't have anything to travel in at the moment Jon, but we do have a 2010 Jimny, a 2006 Prius and a '74 Kombi. While the insurance companies buggerise around, I might at least be able to organise which will be the towed, which will be sold and which will be mothballed for use when we aren't travelling. We could just tow a trailer and take which ever one we feel like at the time ...... but the weight rules say that if all the load is on the trailer, the weight of the trailer plus the load must be less than 2 tonne, otherwise it must have break away brakes .... just another thing to cause a drama at the most inconvenient time, so flat towing makes the most sense, then the gypsy trailer, then a very light vehicle on a very light trailer .....

As you say, we are running out of time ..... and money, I can't afford the time or $$ to go through all the options to see which works best for us, so it's easiest to see who does what and go from there.

As anyone who has had a major insurance claim will know, you never get back what you lost, we were reduced to the clothes we were standing in, we will have to make do with what we can afford in the time we have left ...... that sort of rules out buying a Suzuki Grand Vitara with the required Blue ox set up and a motorhome already set up with everything we want to travel, after having been through that twice already, both the time and $$ will limit just what we can do as far as a motorhome and a towed ....... or maybe we won't be able to do any of it and build a house in today's crunch regarding building costs ...... the cost of building a house in Mannum, much like anywhere outside the metro areas, has skyrocketed since the start of the pandemic, there is virtually no way to insure against that, you don't know just what the cost will be until the worst thing you could image happens, a workshop, business, two motorhomes and a house with all the out buildings and all the gear collected over a lifetime of working, plus what you bought to replace what you lost .... all gone ... start again at 69 yrs old with a body that just wants to sit down and rest .......

Terry, I think you've missed the whole point.

I speak pretty frankly and very bluntly. It made me quite famous at HP through the world. Never one to sugar coat things, but boy our team got things done and led the company in forefront of ideas and improvements.

So here it is.

Your eyes are a bit rooted, as your back is. You're getting old. The time for dreaming about modifying things needs to be reserved for coffee times in front of the fire. It needs to be put aside for the time being.

This whole recovery thing needs to be run like a project. Only with good planning, will you get it sorted.

With any project, it needs a scope and it needs boundaries. Limits. What is in and what is out. Once they are defined then you test everything to see if it it's in scope or discarded.

In a project, there are 3 typical overriding limits.

Time, Funds, Scope. Usually, one is more flexible than another. I would suggest that none are flexible. No excess time, no spare cash, however scope could change providing the time and money objectives are not lost.

I feel that you're only focused on 'scope'. eg "or upgrading to a Sierra transferbox and the two stick conversion that adds a 2WD low range but adding a dog clutch to the front drive shaft ."

but without an understanding of scope creep. "oh, I could just do this and this and then this". Rustic come to mind and there are others. In the mean time, the time and money constraints are lost.

Unfortunately, any creep that impacts time and money is simply not recoverable. This needs to be understood and accepted.

I challenge you ask yourself some very tough questions. Starting with; Do I just want to build a way out car and tow system which no one has ever seen before which could take months or years, or do I want to travel with Margaret and see as much as I can?

Your answer and the consequential mindset will define how you recover from this mess.

I say the above with absolute love for you two, but with a lot of frustration. Please understand that it's from a friend who cares deeply for you two and who wants you to get on the road having fun.

Good morning All. 11* and sunny but we had more rain overnight.

Re the MH door: I organised freight by paying again yesterday morning but thankfully, following my drawn out complaint to Paypal they released the seller's money and last night she transferred what I had paid back into my account. :)

Hopefully, I will receive the door sometime this week and I can put the MH back into our yard ready to be worked on after a two week stay in a Kyneton timeswhare, which was booked about 12 months ago. At the end of our stay Julie will catch a bus to Melbourne airport for a work trip to New Zealand and I shall drive home alone and start working on the door replacement.

Good morning everyone. It's quite cool and very foggy here at Lake Mulwala.
Terrie's dad was sent over to Wangaratta Base Hospital late last night, so we are off to there shortly.
George, you have picked a very cold part of the season to visit the Kyneton district. I hope you get some sunny days.
Nothing much else to report, so far.
Safe travels everybody.
Cheers

Good morning 12c, beautiful sunshine, clear sky, prediction 17c, no bowls for me today, I’ve been breathless, Dr told me that my lungs are clear, slowly improving, still have an annoying cough.

Jon, totally agree with the friendly advice to Terry, he really does need to start relaxing, enjoying himself with Margaret while they are still able to travel & forget about working on projects all the time.

As a bit extra to my earlier post about Tilta trailers.
The single axle version is rated at 1500kg, the trailer itself weighs 300kg, so it has a load carrying capacity of 1200kg.
Tilta also make a tandem axle version for vehicles heavier than than the little Jimny. No idea how much they cost though. It seems that the going rate for a second hand single axle Tilta is around $3000. Which is about half of what a Blue Ox or similar system costs.
Cheers

Sorry Jon, sometimes the frustration boils over and I look for a head to bite off, you just stuck your head up at the wrong moment .... had a sleep (well sort of) and having a fresh look ..... maybe a Sierra might be a better solution, or a tilt trailer ..... or just the set up we have now .... that works ..... Fix the Jimny and sell it, look at the Blade Electron and the Kombi/MG4 build as future projects to keep me off the street

Forget the projects for now Terry, get another MH & enjoy travelling with Margaret, put them on the back burner for when you can’t travel, age sneaks up on you very quickly.

I'm one of those people who start to go stir crazy if I can't put ideas to test out in reality if I'm left idle for a few days, so projects fill in the gap.
Can't buy a motorhome until at least one of the insurance mobs coughs up some $$ .... the fact it was only 15 mths ago we lost a motorhome and workshop has both insurance companies on their toes looking for an out. Unfortunately, we don't have the advantage of either claims being backed by the owner being a self managed super fund ..... they are very careful not to get involved with causing a superfund problems, but they don't care about stuffing the lives of an individual, they have no govt backing ...... just our luck, after getting well and truely screwed over by NRMA with the blue slip insurance claim, the NRMA took over the insurance company the house is insured with  The motorhome is insured with APIA, so was the Hino that was burnt to the ground in the workshop fire 15 mths ago ..... them being a bit hesitant is quite understandable .... but that doesn't help us much ....

Morning everyone.
BLOODY package didn't arrive 😡
This mob are worse than Aussie post...grrr. we were to pick something else up yesterday but had to postpone it because package will require signature...

Besides all that I have set the car shed up to do work on daughter's little nipper caravan next week when she drops it off.

There is a beaver tail trailer that I'm interested in, it can load 2000kgs.
But I still have to talk herself in to it
Carol has a new project 😡😡😡
That means I have a new project...

Thinking of Terries dad... Dave.
Keep safe everyone.
