Dot wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2018 7:15 pm Update. All wounds healing well, saw a hand therapist for ? Dupuytren's in my R) hand but she thinks it is the result of scar tissue stopping the tendons from "sliding" smoothly so lots of exercises and massage but me thinketh that is not the right diagnosis. Seeing the #1 surgeon on the 12th so he may be able to shed some light on it. Now for the other progress, I have managed to eat a pork chop (minus the bone) and also a very tender steak but disappointed at the lack of taste. It also takes some contortionist acts of the armytongue to get the food to the right side of the mouth before swallowing it. I thought my speech was pretty good but today a woman had trouble understanding me and I very nearly showed her how good my F word comes out perfectly but with the Gman next to me a little tap to my foot did the trick
The hand problem might be cramps from it trying to chew the steak .... or is it the other hand/arm that made the tongue donation?
That Dupuytren's contracture is a real bugger and I have it in my right hand, takes lots of work to keep it under control once it starts and apparently only surgery and constant work to eliminate it completely ...... having both your tongue and hand out of action you won't be able to communicate at all  ;)

Saw the #1 surgeon today He was certain it was 6 mths since the op and had to check his notes after I told him it was only 8 weeks post op  He probed & stroked my oral cavity and shook hands with my arm and was impressed. Still some swelling to go down but time is that cure. Just have to see him every 6 weeks for 1 year and see the #2 surgeon every 3 mths. If I have any concerns then to get in touch with him any time, he is a really nice man and didn't charge me either :D back to the hand therapist next week so hoping for some improvement with less pain. :) :)

Update :( Have been seeing a hand lady giving me exercises but today I saw my GP who was my physio many yrs ago when she was helping with my condition then called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy now Complex Regional Pain Syndrome after an injury to my L) wrist. Today she looked at my R) hand and said "Oh no" then faxed a letter to Sportsmed where they treated me for the first injury. The original hand/arm specialist has retired so I get to see his replacement. :( This is a real bummer to my progress which has been going along beautifully. BUT if this latest hump is the dreaded rsd/crps then I shall fight it as I did before, as I first said on this thread NOTHING is going to hold me down. The tongue/arm is doing ever so well, the neck scars are all good, the leg graft area is healing nicely but very itchy and the arm wound also is doing great. Keep smiling everyone x :D

Keep smiling Dot. We know that you will beat this hand thing with the same determination that has got you this far. Hand pain is so very difficult, especially to people who have never had hand pain. I feel for you, and at the same time am so glad that mine was a "simple" carpal tunnel fix. Yours sounds a lot more complex and I really do understand xxx

Saw hand / arm specialist Monday and he confirmed my hand has indeed developed the dreaded RSD again :( so looks like more painful physio stuff for mths on end. Today was my 6 week check up with the #1 tongue surgeon and he was very pleased with my tongue progress, asked him about the 'tinglin" sensation on the tip of the tongue and he said it would settle down once my brain :? had got used to the new tissue aka the arm tongue. See him again in another 6 weeks.. Not one cent was charged either :D :D Next on the list is the #2 surg that did the arm and leg bits on the 5th March.

Was that saw hand/arm or sore hand/arm Dottles? Not the best news but at least you know it will come right after all the painful therapy because you have already been through it once.
That tingling in the end of the tongue might be from my new hearing aids, I'll make sure I take them out next time you wanna whisper in my ear ;)
