Just spoken to Brad and Al has been off the resperator for 6hrs and has spoken to Mel and Brad and gave Mel a kiss. They are waiting to see how long he can go without the machines. Then maybe make a decision...He doesn,t want to be a vegie....

Thanks for the update Norman. I'm sure we can all picture ourselves in Al's position. Let's all of us hope for the best possible result for Al. Big hugs to Mel and Brad...and I think there is a daughter there too. Let's not forget her.

Norman left out the fact that Brad reads all the posts to Al even if he is asleep so have sent him a couple of naughty jokes, that will get things pumping

The fact he is such a fighter, he is breathing on his own and has the wits still about him to be able to talk says he won't be a veggie. I know a few people who have come back from the brink, had to lean body function control including muscle control and how to speak, all over again, one is a top computer programmer and the other one manages a quite successful business now.
Never say you can't come back from here Al, you are half way there already. Even if you still need assistance for the respirator again a few times, doesn't mean the end, just means you still need to build up more strength.

Al would be the first to offer any kind of assistance to anyone that needed it and never expect anything but a thank you or a handshake in return. When in Als company you must be prepared for that sharp wit and a lot of laughs to go with it..
