The ABC did a story on the preparations the other day, the plan was a bit confusing. But, there must be a valid reason for putting the levee where it is. Unlike Lismore, where the water came up the drains after some valve failed.

Never assume the powers that be have even thought about that problem, all the street gutter drains run into the river, if they block them off to stop the water pouring in that way, what are there plans when it rains and the street floods from the protected side of the levee? Near as I can tell, all the streets of Mannum end up in that drain, it has erupted out of the main street drains during a heavy downpour in the past, so who knows

Looking on the BoM site http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDS60253/IDS6 ... .plt.shtml Loxton is part way through a river rise, just reached Overland Corner yesterday, the last rise has only just started to show at Swan Reach, hasn't reached Walker Flat yet and no indication at the Mannum Wharf station ..... we might get both the first and second river rise very close to each other.

I really don't think they know but the locals are expecting it to reach the 1931 marker. The Loxton to Berri road is out as is most of the ferries up here.
Cheers

The river rise reached Mannum around 6pm last night and has been climbing since. The most obvious indications are at the Marina, the Marina workshop is now an island, it hasn't actually climbed high enough to get in the doors yet, but there is only the concrete slab height stopping it. All the walkways to the boats are now either completely under water or just the bit where it reaches the road still has the mesh out of water. Interesting seeing the various methods used to create a walkway above water, and extension ladder laid flat with boards on it was about the funnies, kids might be able to walk on it, but once an adult's weight is at the halfway point, it will collapse, nearly worth setting a video camera to get a TikTok viral video
The clever people that built the Unforgettable's workshop appear to built a sloping slab, there is water all around the slab but the far end is under water, the end close to the road is still above water  They have sandbagged the deep end, but it won't be long before the water is up to entry level at the next roller door. The car park where the customers park their cars is now a wash, complete with waves, it will be interesting to see their reaction when they return from their cruise

I'll take some photos on the way home, it should be real interesting by then ;)

I see the river level is rising again at lock 10 Wentworth, the water coming down the Darling River from Wilcannia hasn't reach Menindee yet, so water is still flowing backward up the Darling .....that flood rise must be coming from Mildura. The river level seems to be the same all the way to just before Remark where it is rising and shows up at lock 5.
The last river rise at Lyrup seems to be levelling out now after rising for a week, it is still rising at Berri so Loxton has a lot more water coming from the Lyrup high water and all of it has another lot coming down from Wentworth.
The last lot from Loxton started to show up at Overland Corner last Thursday and it has gone up more than a meter in that time. That area has a lot of flood lakes to fill up, so there must be a lot of water heading into there for that whole area to increase a meter.
All that has really only just reach Walker Flat, so Mannum is going to see a lot more water over the next week or so, should be interesting viewing for a while now as the level starts to steady increase.
