You also have to ask the smarts some people must have if they didn't check the peak flood level potentials before building. It's a bit like building beside an airport and then complaining about the aircraft noise. We have these type of people around the Albion Park airport, seriously, these people are really asking for an IQ test when they complain about something that was obviously going to happen. The floods may not have been so obvious though, maybe a lot of faith was put into the levy banks holding. As more and more land up stream changes from wooded or grassed countryside to bitumen and concrete subdivisions, the faster and higher these peaks will rise. Add to that, the more towns up stream whose levy banks hold, the greater volume of water will still be coming down the river. Those at the end of the river may never be able to keep the flood waters out and each yr will be a new record high.Macca wrote:I am very aware of that Dot but just get cranky with myself when I do stupid things. As you say I should be in bed. Just found my previous flood heights for Bundy. Many of these homes should never have been built where they were. 1890 flood was 9.9.![]()
Maybe no rules about buiilding in these places way back when, but no excuse for councils to allow this to happen in this day & age.
