This thing is p*ssing me off big time. After removing all the check valves from the lifters, the 1st cyl still had zero compression, I can see the rubbish on the valve face so that can be explained, the next cyl now had zero compression where I had 50 psi before  , the next three have gone from 120 through to 150 psi to all at 170psi .....
I took the rockers out of No:1 and the cyl beside it, no:1 still hissed up the intake port, but the next cyl suddenly had 150 psi ...... I put the intake rocker back in that cylinder and it immediately dropped back to zero compression and huffing out the inlet port ...... that means, even with the hydraulic lifter full collapsed, the rocker is still holding the valve open

The knees said enough was enough, so tomorrow is another day .... maybe I can wedge no:1 inlet open far enough to clean the crap off the back of the valve .... without it ending up in the cyl ...... the next one along, No:3 cyl is going to be another matter .... I still need to check if the exhaust valve is being held open by the rocker .....

Ripping the whole lot out and fitting this Lexus V6 and L110 hybrid transmission is looking better every time I look at the thing ......

Wedge the valve open, put an airline in the plug hole and use a scriber or similar and pick the gunch off the valve face.
Wear safety glasses. Report back tonight with a progress report.

So I can tell Margaret that I have buy another compressor so I can get the engine repaired ...... I'll give it a go, just because I have your backing

yeah, lucky that!. 2000ks. but.... only 3 feet in May.

Terry, before continuing on this lifter journey..... Why not release the rockers from the valves and do a proper leak down test on each cylinder?
This will confirm if the faces are clean and tight.

Then measure the height of the stem for each valve to ensure that they are not artificially high. (aka valve sunken into the head).

Then if all ok, continue with your lifter rejuvenation idea. (by the way, those lifters from the US might be halfway here if you ordered them earlier..... just say'n)

or even swap known good lifter from a good cylinder into a bad cylinder. If the lifters are shot, the compression issues will follow them.....

also, have you confirmed that there is not a secondary electronic butterfly operating or other inlet blockage???

Overseas freight can be quick sometimes. I once had something picked up in China on Saturday morning, was delivered to the farm in North Brisbane before lunch on Monday. No there was not a week in between. Even FedEx guy that delivered it did not believe it. If you need it and are prepared to pay a bit extra you can move stuff pretty quick. Would rule out this one area that seems to be iffy.

From China or GB, very fast, often faster than from Qld to here, but out of the USA .... nah, 6 weeks if ya lucky and they actually remember to put it in post or contact the delivery people ...... They don't seem to care if they get a bad wrap from outside of the US .....

Once the inlet manifold is off, it is easy to see the backs of the valves down the inlet port, they are big ports, yet the actual inlet in the manifold is about the size of the old twin barrel Holden 253 manifolds :?

The rockers are actually out of No:1 and No:3 cylinder, so after I do the cleaning on the No:1 inlet valve, I'll pump the cyls full of air to see if the exhaust valves are leaking ...... But I don't believe they are, I can get full compression on No:3 cyl with the rockers out, yet it blows back up the inlet with the rockers in and the hydraulic lifter fully collapsed, with the check valves removed so they can't pump up.
I could grind the upper piston base to shorten it, rather than the valve stem I guess, that would improve the valve clearance. If I'm getting new lifters anyway, it doesn't really matter if I mutilate these ones .... I just want to see proper compression in each cyl with the rockers installed and the valves opening and closing ..... that will rule out bent valves and damaged guides or broken valve springs ...... I really don't want to pull these heads off with the motor still in the chassis ...... if I'm forced to take it out, it will stay out and I'll go hybrid using the Lexus 450h engine and hybrid trans .... that two motor speed hybrid transmission on its own can develop more torque and more Kw than the V10 ..... and powered by sunshine 8-)

Time is your enemy, I feel that you seem to over look this critical point.
btw, the same sunshine pushes up the daisy's when your time has run out.

Something is just not right Terry!
Open a beer, sit back & take a good long look at what is happening & ask "why"?
From what you are saying, I can come up with a few reasons but you, with your past, could easily discount some or all of them but maybe come up with your ideas.
1. They installed longer stem valves.
2. They installed longer hydraulic lifters.
3. They installed different rocker or rockers.
4. Like earlier suggested.... valves sunken into head.... insert broken & dropped out?
5. ??

I'm presuming both inlet & exhaust rockers & lifters are the same in original motor?
