Agree Lesley.
First visit there for us was in 07 & just driving by when I noticed the sign 'Standown Park'. Well, being ex military, the word standown is synonymous with relax, etc, so I was interested to see what this one related to.
Stayed there in roughly the same spot as yourself for 3 nights - with the discount - loved the peacefulness of the location & the big fire at happy hour.
Returned for another visit in 2011.
Yep, nice spot.
So come on guys, where are you??? ;)

Chuck, we didn't realise the significance of the name. A number of KOG members are ex Military and come here regularly. In fact, the KOG Christmas "do" will be held here at the end of November so we will be back again. We were a bit concerned that not being veterans (Swiss army service doesn't count
) we might be a bit isolated but Happy Hour was very friendly and no mention of service record.

Is Standown Park the one being run by the (ex) Bush Tucker Man, Les Hiddins?
Part of his R&R bush set-up for veterans?

Unless things have changed it isn't a good place to be after heavy rain. The area is so flat it becomes a bit of a slop hole.

If that is so, why not go to the Island in the north, catch a boat and the guberment* will pay it for you.
