Birdwood?
During the war (2) and for a couple of years after, my father worked on the railways (SA) in Wolseley and every Friday a car similar to that one in your photo used to travel from Adelaide to Wolseley to Mount Gambier with all the workers paypackets.
It was referred to as the Paycar. A bit different now days with direct deposit into bank accounts??

I was going to say Qld because the rails don't look to be wide enough for SA. Qld is 3ft 6in, SA is 5ft 3in from memory.
