We have stopped at the "Popiltah Rest area #990 Camps book 8. There are Loos, trees, bins, and it's a good large area.

I was gunna ask the same thing, maybe a whip snake? it sure has a small head.

If it is a whip snake they are unlikely to bite, but the bite causes a lot of pain so best left alone to do their thing. They eat lizards so that explains the small head because it doesn't need to have a big mouth but does need to go where lizards can go

There was an incident a few years ago where a bloke was bush walking & was bitten by a whip snake, they did nothing thinking it was harmless, he died he following day, it was on the TV news.
We camped at Warrabah NP & watched a whip snake searching for lizards, it was amazing the way it was looking for them & we had been earlier watching the lizards in that very area.
