That would be a terribly unpleasant way to go out. For those of us that were at Muckinup just a few Easters ago, Harcourt is about 5km from where we were.Shirley wrote:Anyone who is interested, Ron Siggins a 37 year old reptile enthusiast was bitten by a whip snake in April,2007, 120km north west of Melbourne at Harcourt North, the snake was definitely identified as a whip snake, he collapsed a short time lately & passed away, interesting reading.

Especially as he did nothing other than wrap a handkerchief around his bite, he thought that they were harmless, he had been bitten by a whip snake previously, sad for his wife & two children.

I guess the safe method is treat all snakes with respect and don't encroach on their territory, most only bit as a defence when cornered or trodden on, the death adder is an exception, he/she will chase you. Big fat short body with a little tail, it hides in grass or leaves and wiggles the little tail above the leaves as a lore, no1 cat killer in the Illawarra area

We just pulled up at Manna Hill rest area, parked up, dog outside on his lead and soon after he starts barking. The usual "shut up dog" but he continues so I go outside and he is under the bus still growling and barking then I see a brown snake about 3 ft long making it's way between the rear tyres. It kept going into the bush but the dog didn't let it out of his sight until it was gone. What a good 9 month old pup he is.

Can't beat those animals to know when something/someone rotten is about. What is the pup you speak of? no mention of this before (I don't think anyway)

Boof the Tebetan Spaniel/Shizu. Bloody number 1 daughter came over to our place for Easter and produced a nice bottle of port for yours truly. She then went back out to the car, I thought to get an esky, but no, comes in with a small furball for her mother. So now we have a dog, good news is they only live for about 15 bloody years
but apparently he is good with snakes

Julie bought one for our daughter, Leonie. Leonie moved out and left us with the high pitched yapping dog.

At least we have had Boof since he was 8 weeks old and have had the chance to teach him a few manners. He lives in carry box while we are underway and at night and outside during the day when stopped.

Disturbed a small Brown Snake sunning himself in our garden t'other day... no hounds in sight; both inside mooching for bread crusts!
One of ours (The Beagle, or Noobs) we inherited from Son and Heir when he moved into a rental house with ONE METRE of yard on three sides of the building!
Nature strip is ARTIFICIAL GRASS!!
He vacuums it... sigh.
I know what this world is coming to... a time when we'll ask, "What is this world coming to?"

Re: Banal .. Open to any topic on and off topics etc
On the homeward stretch now
don't really want to go there but the birds will want to hear about our 3 mths away and the fruit trees may need some TLC. Camped in a lovely gravel pit just a few ks Sth out of Karoonda.. Lovely and quiet, a tad chilly but not bad at all. Second last leg is to Mannum for a catch up and then home so Brian gets to have his booster jabs and full check over, Gman & me to the usual Drs in the next couple of weeks then back to continue sitting in on the court case we left way back in August, yes it is still going, think it must be getting close to the end of the 7 cases by now??? Think IT must be crapping Itself now
. Have caught up with some of the old friends and made a few more, apart from a couple of ticks and some feral cough we have all done very well. The bus has gone like a dream so all in all we are happy with life.. Watch out Mannum mob you have 3 mths of #$%%%^^^& to hear about.
