Hi, all.

We were at Cockburn river, but had a very suss ute circling through the campground - now comfortably settled at Bendermere.

Almost forgot, another camper dumped a stack of warm ash at the base of a large gumtree before taking off this morning - mrs shonky spotted flame slowly progressing up the trunk an hour or so later, and now our main water tanks are looking a bit dry.
See you on the back roads,
shonky et al.

Had some D#@*head pull a similar stunt when we were travelling north on the Stuart Hwy Port Aug-A. Springs a coupla years ago:
Before a hasty departure, they dumped hot ash behind a tree (rough barked, too)... in short dry grass!
Spotted smoke from the smouldering... by the time I gathered a few other campsite volunteers there were flames climbing the trunk, and more heading for long dry grass 10 metres away.
We shovelled sand furiously, as the campsite water tank was a good 150m away. Concentrated on the front heading for the long grass as the greatest danger. The other fronts were heading for sandy tracks, only some of which had centrelines of grass to carry the flames over.
Eventually put the lot out, but it was close!

Couldn't even call 000: no phone reception.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

We are by the river near the Cadell ferry . . . . Have Internet with my Telstra stick but not mobile cover...it's a great spot, right by the river, toilets, picnic benches....even got a guy on a ride on mower mowing the lawn area!

Walkers Flat....nice spot by the river...travelled 25 km today! Seems a bit more sheltered from the wind.
