Re: Bernie and Carols Isuzu fit out.
Bugger!
The drum is on the inside of the axle so you'll need to undo the outside ring of bolts, pull out the axle, undo the BIG nut after you bend back the locking tab, then remove the locking washer, then the second nut (on most). After that the complete hub and drum will come off as one.
Best if that side is a bit high than the other as some oil might escape.
If you can slide off the hub level & with out 'dragging' it off you might not need to replace the seal. I'd replace it anyway ....
Check the wear surface where the seal runs.
Bernie are you sure it's break fluid leaking or diff oil?
PS. If you damage the gasket behind the head of the axle you can use a corn flakes packet at a pinch... impregnate it with gasket goo...

Axle out, probably has tapered cones under the nuts so you need to belt the centre of the axle to jarr them loose. Then remove the outer and inner hub nuts (wheel brg pre load adjusters) and then while supporting the drum carefully slide it off the axle tube being very careful not the damage the rear seal.BernieQ wrote:Ok here's one for the mechanics amongst us . A much easier method is to put the wheels back on, slide a sheet of tin with oil on it under the tyres and adjust the jack till there is no weight on the wheels but they are touching the tin sheet. Now take the brg retainer nuts off and holding the tyre each side slowly slide it off the axle tube. Using this method the seal is better protected from damage as you won't drop the hub assembly at the wrong angle when it all gets too heavy for your back

read the book when it comes to re-tensioning the wheel brg preload, what worked on the old pommie stuff doesn't work on the jap and European stuff resulting in damaged brgs or stubb axles if you get it wrong. Give the brgs a good coating with grease if you have them out and recheck the diff oil level, fill till it runs out the hole so there is enough oil to refill the hubs
now you know why they went to disc brakes eh

Re: Bernie and Carols Isuzu fit out.
Thanks Terry BUGGA not so easy-peasy . Thought it would be just like a car wheel off drum off .
Your piece of tin would no doubt need to be on a level playing field not my piece of grass in the front yard , but have some 2/3 mm flat here .
{read the book when it comes to re-tensioning the wheel brg preload} what book don't have one mate?
Not going to happen today or maybe not for a week . my neighbour (retied RACQ ) is away till next week so will wait till then .
Was planning to maybe find out what I needed as we are going into the big smoke tomorrow , but it will wait .
Lucky it happened at home and not out in the red centre .
Bernie .
Its always time for a beer Bruce you know that . I will put one wheel back on till I do the job .
