Re: Bernie and Carols Isuzu fit out.
On the subject of Isuzu, my friend Rob, who is a truck mechanic full time, had a look over our Isuzu. He said Isuzu and Hino are really good, Fuso are good but UD are a bit suss. Then he said, "I don't want to appear rude but the Isuzu is going to outlast you!"

Maintenance is vital on any machinery of course!
The beauty of Isuzu is there are agents Australia wide. Every town has a 'fleet' of Isuzu's ranging from small delivery to larger concrete trucks etc.
UD (Nissan) were much better than the Isuzu way back in the beginning but UD have just about fallen off the market now.
One thing I have to ask you though?
Is it a tilt cab or lift up internal hatch?
Furniture vans with the Luton Peak have a lift up section of the 'peak' to allow the cab to tilt.
I should have had a decent look at yours in the Bridge!!

Hatches under the seats. Easy enough to change oil and filters, etc. Don't know how you would get at belts but I'm sure there is a way. There is plenty of room up underneath. An engine change would be another thing but as my mate said, it's going to outlast me. It had an oil/filter change at 4,000k, but that was 2 years ago and it had done 13,000 when I got it. It's due for oil/filter changes every 20,000k, however, I changed the oil after I got it. I had an old leather strap type filter wrench that I broke so I couldn't get the filter off (12cm dia filter). I bought a new wrench and I'll replace the filter and oil again at 20,000k to bring it back in line with recommended service times.

Ummm..... it is 20,000kms if that is full highway use, that means virtually non stop up and down the highway, half that for delivery van use and on a time basis for infrequent use. Acid and water build up in the oil is the issue, the bore will rust pit and the white metal will be eaten out of all the brgs if you try to clock up 50,000kms at the rate of even 5,000km a yr but only changing the oil at 20,000km intervals. Rebuilt a lot of engines including Isuzu with very low milage and oil that still passed the pinch and stretch test. Pitted pistons, scuffed rings, pitted bores, pitted cam shaft lobes, eaten out cam brgs, main brgs and con rod brgs so bad the rods had been rattling on the crank requiring a regrind..... a complete engine rebuild but there were still hone marks in the liners

Get the cyls resleeved with a stainless sleeve, no more rusted cyls tearing the rubber seals and causing the leaks. Change the fluid every 2 yrs as it absorbs water and that is what rusts out the cyls and brake pipes.BernieQ wrote:Thanks Terry BUGGA not so easy-peasy . Your piece of tin would no doubt need to be on a level playing field not my piece of grass in the front yard , but have some 2/3 mm flat here .
{read the book when it comes to re-tensioning the wheel brg preload} what book don't have one mate?
Not going to happen today or maybe not for a week . my neighbour (retied RACQ ) is away till next week so will wait till then .
Was planning to maybe find out what I needed as we are going into the big smoke tomorrow , but it will wait .
Lucky it happened at home and not out in the red centre .
Bernie .
Its always time for a beer Bruce you know that . I will put one wheel back on till I do the job .
