I think you mentioned on the phone that the eye beam was on blocks and the wheel off, just the hub and brake drum still fitted, is that correct? Try lifting the weight slightly under the drum with a bottle jack, not much, just enough to take the weight. Don't worry too much about drilling into the kingpin itself, it should be made of the same material or tougher than the drill bit, so it will deflect the drill around it. Just be careful of the eye beam itself, it is only cast and reasonably soft.

Thanks Terry , I have had the brake drum on jack but still no go .
Unfortunately the drill hole has gone thru to the other end just at base of the threaded end .
So at the moment I'm just waiting for a miracle haha .
Do you think if I heat the pin ( I have a MAP gas gun ) then throw some cold water on it . I'm also running out of some thing to "wack"
Bernie .
Thanks to Jon also for his comments .

If you had a 10mm tap you could tap a thread through the cotter pin screw a bolt through a socket or piece of pipe big enough to fit over the large end of the cotter pin and use that to pull the pin out. Alternatively, a bolt screwed half way through and an 8mm pin punch driven from the nut end against the bolt end now inside the cotter pin. The idea is the pull the pin out from he end it was driven in rather than mushrooming the pin inside the eye beam. Now it has been drilled out the pin will be softer and inclined to collapse in on itself as if pulled rather than pushed out.

Bernie, I am coming up to Hervey Bay tomorrow night. If you need something that I might have, then let me know ASAP and I will drop it at your daughters place.

I like the idea of tapping the hole and then pulling it out.
Even putting a pre load on it and then wacking it from the other end. But you need to be carefully of mushrooming it.
Bernie, heat wont help if there is a edge catching. If there is movement then there a chance the pin has an edge on it.

BernieQ wrote:The pins have a welsh plug on the bottom Terry ( I haven't removed it yet ) and a cap with bolt on the top if that helps .
Thanks for your input Steve .
Terry there is no sideways movement on the pin just up and down
Bernie .
Ummmm........ you have loosened the bolt in the top haven't you? Try tapping it down lightly to move the kingpin a bit, it could have been pulled up into the cotter pin and now jammed in place.

Got that pin out yet Bernie? I might have to do an overnighter up there to watch this & count the swear words?
Just rip the axle out, throw it in the trailer & head off to town where they have a 100 ton hydraulic press.
I think they recommend new U bolts though so will cost you a few beers....

If Bernie had some decent internet, he could do a live stream and we could all watch.

If there is anything to press against......
your local hire shop (coates, kennards etc) can supply you with very strong, very small porta powers that will do it. What ever it is !!
you might have to make a little frame up to hold the ram, push against, pull to, etc but believe me, if you have tapped it , whacked it and heated it then it might just be time to ram it
