I'm thinking its not a real cotter pin just a bolt they had and jammed it in .
Bernie .
Maybe the same genius went to work at another bus yard and practiced his creating destruction there too

This is the same bloke that welded the axle in because the studs had sheared off and lost the locking collets. No idea where he put the earth clamp but he managed to arc weld both wheel brgs and all the diff brgs as well. There was no reason not to wait for the collets to arrive as there were 2 spare busses available at all times.... unless he had 3 dead ones at the same time, with his apparent skills that is a possible

Morning Terry , I went over board and snapped the pin puller and still it remains were it was .
Got any more thoughts . I have tried to move the king pin but its probably wedged in by the cotter pin ?
Bernie .

Here's a pic of the puller JD.

What happens is you screw the larger thread into the cotter pin then put the sockets on plus washer then turn the nut down , which then works as a puller , with out turning the thread in the cotter pin . does that make sense ?

Bernie, Is it possible to get a photo of what is left, maybe take one from the front and also the rear of the assembly? By the look of it you have stripped the thread that you have tapped into the cotter pin or bolt or whatever it turns out to be. So it can't be real hard steel, maybe? If you can drill into what is left of cotter pin then maybe just keep increasing drill size 1/64 at a time until it collapses on itself, or if you go off centre a bit you may hit the kingpin or the I beam. That won't be pretty.

Thread not stripped in cotter pin Dave just the weld let go .
I had to put locking spanner to get the thread out , its welded up again that's it in the pic .
The tread as at least 3/4 in the cotter pin .

Can you get the kingpin to move up and down at all? The top of the king pin has a threaded hole so a bolt and puller type set up can be used to raise it and a knock back down with a hammer to lower it.
If it doesn't come out with just the socket and bolt puller, cut the threaded end off the cotter pin, drill through from the tapped end, put the bolt in 3/4 of the way and try driving it out with a drift against the threaded bolt while you have the socket acting as a puller. If the puller on the cotter pin and driving against the bolt with a drift won't free it while the king pin is being moved up and down it means the king pin has chewed into the cotter pin..... the only fix then is to drill it out.

No Bruce it wont move , there is nothing left of it but two of us (one a RACQ) mechanic cant move the bugga.
My hands are all jarred from hitting it with a metal drift . Cant even get a crack on the head end which has only about a nits tit left on it .
I'd shoot the basted if I was allowed .

shoot the RACQ mechanic? oh my.
Bernie, it must be mechanically jammed. Maybe the endcaps need to come off and the king pin rotated a whisker to free up the cotter.
How long is the cotter pin?

No end caps Jon just the one on the top just a Welsh plug thingy on the bottom .
Mechanically jammed ya think ?
No way of rotating the king pin and I have been trying to hit it down , not possible to hit it up , and have tried with jack under the rim .
I recon it's welded itself in there .
My Racq mate has recovered from me shooting him...sorta he now has the wog haha .
I just held two fingers up at the correct length of the cotter pin did ya see ?
Thanks Jon will have to either keep hitting the pin or find another axle to replace what I cant fix .
Bernie .
