Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

I'm with you on that Robert. We have just returned from walking the dog down in the forest near the river. The wind today is absolutely bitter, it must be coming off the snow somewhere. We had a few showers overnight but nothing spectacular. I reckon the farmers will be happy as most of the flatland around here has a crop in it now, or the pasture levels are up and the stock are getting a good feed.
Cheers

We got a dog today. Owner of the farm dropped by on her way to get supplies for he station. Brought us some beef, some tomato plants, some well manured straw for the garden & a dog (if we wanted it until the end of the virus restrictions). It's a Collie cross cattle dog which has proven to be pretty useless as a work dog. It had been due to go to an old fella to be a pet, but the virus restrictions got in the way of that happening, so we were asked if we wanted to have it here. So we've said yes to 'Gina' staying with us. :)

On the chook front the chook family therapy seems to be working. Relationships inside the pen have calmed right down, but all that could change later today if the owner is able to get some more chooks, She wants to take a few back to the station, but will get some for us too if they are available. (There were none available when she was here a month or so ago).

Goanna? Crows? You ever hear them cackle?
If they are that old I'd consider boiling for a long time before eating!!
 ;)
Yep there's a mesh top. Not sure how old Hettie is. Missie Houdini might lay again. We had 2 eggs during her last incarceration. The assumption is that Missie was responsible but not 100% certain. Hettie seems to get something out of sitting on a plastic egg now & then.
As for eating our own chooks, I could tell you stories about that. Suffice it to say we were ok with eating our own cows, pigs, goats & sheep but were happy to buy chook from the shops. We can hear Rodney crow each morning, but are probably too far away to hear any "I've laid an egg" cackle.

If the owner returns from town with chooks I suspect they may be ex-battery hens in need of rehabilitation - there is a Steggles place in Mareeba, but not sure if they do eggs or just meat. There is an egg place there somewhere though 'cos on her last visit she came back with a box of 15 dozen eggs - 6 trays of 2.5 doz - of which she gave us one tray.

Thanks Bernie, rub the guilt in! I did note your previous post on the matter, but we decided to get her back in whilst we could. With hindsight we may have acted differently. If she did have, hopefully she might have another go . Missie, not Hettie ..... keep up mate! LOL
