That is the nicest way that you could describe gemfest at Annakie. It is our very favourite gem festival to work at. There is constant music and entertainment for the whole weekend. The dates for this event are Thursday 11th-Sunday 14th August and would be a lovely follow up[ activity/escape for anyone at your weekend event. Caravan park at Annakie is already booked out, but there is free camping down at Sapphire behind the po.Busman wrote:Looking more likely that we will be able to attend, as well there is a Big Rigs Clan meeting at Collinsville towards the end of August which is "in the area" so to speak, would like to attend that if possible. Also some gem thingy at Emerald around that time. Other half has just returned from Japan and showed around the first couple of Cabachons we made, found they would sell for $50 each there, so all excited about that.
We will also be set up at Lightning Ridge from Thursday 28-Sunday 31st July. At each event we have inside stalls, my display is the only one with bright lime green tablecloths, so I am easy to find. Obviously, we wont be able to be at the weekend with you in person, but definitely will be there in spirit.
As this is blatant advertising, I would like you to know that you would be made more than welcome should any of you be around for either festival. Please let me know if you are coming and I wont bake a cake, or scones or anything. Just save you a smile.
Busman, this time, maybe you could come and introduce yourself????

We will probably be leaving Bundaberg about the 21st & going up via Bedford Weir. Get to Elphinstone about the 28th- can't hurry this travelling!

We will probably leave Caboolture 26 or 27th, will be quick trip straight there.
Anyone needs stopover around Brissie on their way up the coast, plenty of space at the house block
Deborah, you are right about being booked out, even knowing the managers sister was no help !
We will find somewhere to prop and do some day trips if we have to

Which way are you going up Busman. We are probably going to spend the last night at Nebo, maybe one at German Creek (if not full)after leaving Bedford .

Chuck, Can you please put me on the scratchings list. I am having a wee bit of a problem with my kidneys and will have to go back into hospital next week. Nothing too serious at the moment but the medicos are suggesting that I don't travel too far at the mo'.
Cheers

Re: Elphinstone - List of those attending.
Haven't even thought about it as yet, put one child and wife on plane this morn as the kids 2 years on the farm is up (where did that time go ?)
Then I can start thinking about preparing VP, cutting up some wood for Chuck and then which way to go. Is probably going to be a quick trip up for us, got a few ends to tie up with daughter and partner that are going to run the business, need to get all that stuff out of the way first.
Any suggestions for 1 good roads, 2 less hills, 3 possible stops would be welcome, haven't been north of Bundy so far in VP. Probably looking at 2 days 2 night travel, arrive on third day (29th I think it is)
Cheers
William

Re: Elphinstone - List of those attending.
There are plenty of good stops up highway 17 via the D'Aguila . Depends how many ks you travel each day. We have stopped at Mundubbera, Ceratadus, Monto info centre, Jambin Pub ($5 power< water & dump) Blackwater showgrounds, Bedford Weir & north from there to Nebo the Elphinstone. OR
Straight up the highway from Childers, Gin Gin with stops at Calliope, then west to Blackwater & up.
Most direct route is up highway 17 then west along the Capricorn highway.
