Terry, is your Ibis 4 undersized for the size of the 'house' or does it not perform to system requirements because the MG only puts out 220vac?
Our shitty old Coleman that is 20 years old brings the 'house' in our Winny down to 20⁰ if we want it to. But it needs the 2.0kw Honda running or plugged into a 15A outlet. Surprisingly the current draw isn't to bad once it's running.
It was on our drawing board to replace the old technology with a new inverter job at some point soon. Maybe it's not worth it, if it can't get cold enough.
On another completely irrelevant topic, I think I saw Girt this morning. Parked up next to a house just a few streets away. I'll have a proper sticky nose tomorrow.

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Not enough cooling power for the size of the Winnie, probably needs 7kw or more, simply because it's a glass walled box really.
If I was to put shades over all the windows and a water sprinkler on the roof, it would work fine
It might work better when the roof is covered in solar panels, who knows, but South Australian full sun summer days .... it tries, but just not enough guts

Have you done the maths or guessing?
Mine is a bread tin, with glass. I have a 2.5kw split. Works ok.

Re: Our "New to Us" Winnie
Using the online HVAC calculators, between 5kw and 7 kw would be required to both pull down and maintain 50*C ambient and heat and maintain -5*C.
If the Winnie had double glazing, the 2.5kw would be able to just about control the inside environment, but with single glass and louver windows, it can keep it warm with the all the blinds closed at 0*C, and it can keep it sort of cool if it's running before the heat starts and the Winnie is sealed up ..... but open the door and the heat rush in, it struggles to recover ...... An HVAC system needs to cycle so it can defrost the outside air unit in the cold and rain and the inside air unit in the heat and humidity, so a system that can just hold it's own when running flat out, is undersized for long term use, that is what we need, we don't simply tour in the Winnie, this is where we live now .....

But T1 you didn't say why you went to Balranald to get your license? Was it because it's free over there?

Dot, he went to Balranald to renew his NSW licence, because he had to attend a Service NSW office as he was reqd to get a new photo. I can't believe they don't send out renewals by email. Would have saved a while bunch of angst and done while they were there recently.
Cheers

Cant they do that here? Seems strange you have to go all that way back to NSW.

How much easier life would be if govt depts were organisedsupersparky wrote: ↑Thu Sep 11, 2025 7:50 pm Dot, he went to Balranald to renew his NSW licence, because he had to attend a Service NSW office as he was reqd to get a new photo. If, when I transferred the rego for the Fuso in Lithgow, the system had updated my photo they took there for my replacement card licence, I could have renewed the licence on-line .... but that didn't happen, so a trip to Balranald so the Service NSW system could take yet another photo and authenticate it with the strange overlay system that stops the old method used by the black market, of opening up the card licence and substituting the photo, or simply making fake card licences ..... under the special light used by highway patrol officers, markings are highlighted within the photo validating all sorts of info so it can be double checked against the card information and computer records ..... the digital version you can upload onto your phone, also has an overlay that stands out over the image when tilted a certain way, the SA version requires the phone to be shaken to show different identifiers ..... so they are getting high tech with this stuff now, at least .....

You couldn't update the photo on your licence interstate either Dottie, just another way we are all one nation of completely separate states with their own systems ....
