Had so many things broken over the yrs, the next fall I'll probably shatter. If I can't get it to work properly, I'll buy a new one with an extra step so it's not so steep, possibly redo the ones inside as well, the knees aren't what they once were ...... and Coco winds up like a jack rabbit to make the climb .... they have to be perfectly timed to make it in one go ..... or he does the rolly polly head over apex back out and into the ground ..... generally requires picking up and putting inside after one of those, the confidence shattered .....

Bandit didn't really enjoy getting in or out of our Winnie in his last few years either. With a 3 step setup I think that you would need to park further away from the gutter most times, when stopped on the roadside. Shouldn't be an issue in a vanpark or rest area though.

If there are more steps than room for them to deploy, as you said previously, the steps just stop deploying ..... I can always use the hydraulic levelling legs on the left side to get a bit more clearance if needed
Big dogs suffer more with steps etc as they age, the arthritis pills seem to help them, my german shepherd was not keen to leave his dog house at one stage, but after the pills every day for around a week, he greatly improved and became to ferocious guard dog and family protector he was before, although walks became a shoulder muscle straining exercise again ...... We might have to make a ramp like we had for our 3 legged cat Jake, he still loved travelling to the very end, Putin tat could still jump that high in a single bound, yet land perfectly place, I do hope he simply went to find some where else to live because he didn't want to travel after the scares he suffered in the Mazda when the tyre blow out .... he'd just come up front from his hiding spot in the back of the cupboards

Terry, one of the best investments we ever made, was to buy a set of fold up plastic steps. We used them in the Jimny right up to the end with Bandit. About $45 at KMart from memory. Ray and Joy had a set for the girls after Bandit demo'd them at Rutherglen, back in the say.
Just reread what I wrote earlier. It wasn't steps it was a ramp. Folds up into 3 sections and has a carry handle.

I think the talk about beds on the train with Ray has introduced "tackle" into your thought stream Dottie ..... or are you suggesting we just put a hook above the doorway to hang a block and tackle from so we can winch ourselves up and lower ourselves down? Or is to hand the weight of Coco lifting him in and out of the Winnie
As far as the steps, we have left various versions of these at just about every stopping point in our travels, ones that remain attached and fold up into the Winnie have stayed with us after every stop .... not necessarily the last step to make up the difference in the last step height and the ground ..... at the moment, it is 800mm from the Winnie step to the ground, depending on how much levelling we do with the hydraulic legs, that can be over a mtr ..... that's probably about your underarm height from the ground to get a better idea, that would be more like a folding stepladder required

Hmmm..... seems to accommodated a 1 mtr drop, a set of stairs that slide out are required, so it will have to be 3 steps and an Aldi exercise stepper to make up the last step ..... and getting a lot fitter
