Cunningham Highway closed?

Does anyone have up to date info on the Cunningham Highway closure?
A rock fall has blocked the road & it has been mentioned that it may be closed till at least next Monday 9th December 2013.
All traffic is going via Toowoomba & that road is down to one lane due to roadworks. (big bottleneck???!!!)
Mention of a 300 tonne rock.

That is the latest closed until at least Monday. There is a road just outside Gatton that takes you through to Clifton and Warwick and cuts out the gap and I would be surprised if the authorities allowed heavy trucks to us it . I intend going that way tomorrow morning.

peter, heifer creek road is the better way out of here at the moment. it has some roadworks being done too so don't be in too much of a hurry. this road is open to single trailer trucks but not doubles
not only did the huge rock fall on the road but has left a fair crater that needs to be fixed as well. I reckon they wont get it fixed by the weekend as planned. both main roads have had so much grief over the last few years and still the government wont give us a new range crossing.

My in-laws have just arrived from Vic via the Newell in a car. They have arrived via Warwick and Killarney and Beaudesert to the Gold Coast. The FIL is suggesting that there is not one sign anywhere to advise that there is a problem on Cunninghams Gap. If I had not contacted them by phone they would be none the wiser. Even the RACQ website had the road closure at Willowbank. It is a little bit p**s weak if you ask me. I don't know why the authorities cannot advise the ordinary traveller what is going on, or not.

Yes Dot, Qld, between Warwick and Fassifern is the easiest way to describe the closure. It is mega and the options aren't all that good apparently. The other heavy vehicle route is one lane for repairs and the delays are substantial, apparently.

That would affect those coming in from the west but those coming via the coast wouldn't be affected would they? Except for the extra traffic on the roads of course.

When we were there in June/July '13, the '
highway' from Toowoomba to Brisbane was a mass of roadworks.
We were advised by Glenn & Louise Fitz to take a back road (forget the name

) rather than wait for traffic on the
single lane open at the time.
Apparently it had been thus for quite some time, and was unlikely to be improved in the next 12 months.
So yes, T1; traffic from the
East is being affected, as well as those coming in from the
West via Cunninghams Gap Rd.
GLENN,
Help me! What was the name of the road you suggested? '
Something' Creek Rd?

AM mentioned it in an earler post back in this topic.
Heifer Creek.
For us that don't know the area it's hard to find "Heifer Creek" but I reckon it's the road that runs from Gatton across the range & joins back in between Toowoomba & Warwick.
I have no idea of how steep & windy it is though.

Would that be Gatton-Chilton Rd? Is that where the great little free camp site is, Theiss Park? If that's it, it was windy but I don't remember it being particularly steep any where and we were in the kombi so steep hill stand out a bit
