Hi All Newbi here...we have Coaster 1973,6cyl diesel fully kitted. An old un but a good un,been round the tan before us more times than hot breakfasts. Have owned for 6 years love it.Am up for tyres soon wondering whether to go radial tyres rather than 6.50 16 LT crossply as on it now,I believe 205 80 16 are the equivalent but will they take the 3.5ton load.Any thoughts appreciated.Cheers Trev :P

Hi Trev and welcome from us as well. Radials are fine for the tar track ad 8pr (8 ply rated) or better will handle the load fine. The problem comes when travelling on the rough stuff, it can chop out bit of tread on radial tyres rather quickly. Also, most if not all radial tyres are now tubless and although some people still run tubes in tubless tyres, it's asking for an early failure. Tubless tyres have internal ribs and they chew the tubes up causing pemature failure of the tube. If not spotted as soon as it hapens it's the death of the tyre as well, radial cases don't handle being run flat near as well as cross ply cases.

Thanks for the welcome friends...Ta Terry for good heads up on potential problems with radial tyres on the coaster and I thinking about it I really can`t run tubeless because the Coaster runs split rims and the thoughts on tubes in radial tyres are much appreciated. I run vintage motor vehicles as well and am aware of the trouble we can get into with tubes. I was not aware of the potential rubbing the tubes from the inside of radials. Guess I will stick with conventional crossply though 6.50/7.00 16s are getting hard to find....I will find em.

I think the Cinese double coin mob have started making these discontinued sizes and they seem to have a good reputation so far in the trucking industry..... although I've been ot of the loop for some time now so that rep may have changed for the worst.
