Aerial for Vertical signal.
We recently spent a while around Monto Qld. Apparently it is a vertical signal area. We have a winegard aerial that won't receive vertical. What type of aerial works with both horizontal and vertical? And does anyone know how to tell what type of signal to expect, especially if you are away from the towns and can't see the aerials on the house roofs?
Cheers

I reckon any aerial is a hit and miss thing, if you can't get anything (on the tv) then amuse yourself other ways, we saw every and any sort of aerials etc while away, and not one managed to get tv when ever they wanted to (even those satellite things)

Re: Aerial for Vertical signal.
The new xxxx winegard receives both signals David.
Or do what we do when no tv something else? just like my phone when no signal I don't use it.
If you were out at the gorge proberly no signal either way.

Bernie, It isn't me that has a problem if the TV has no signal. Except on Bathurst days.
Do you mean the white Xmas tree looking thingo? I'm not sure if one of those will fit on our roof without hitting something. They look a little fragile. Has anyone got one. How do they handle the wind?

Re: Aerial for Vertical signal.
Hi David,
I fitted a WinSig in 2011 and have been to many places that have a vertical signal. It works well. Prior to buying this I use to get up on the roof and drop one pin (there are two) out of the Winegard head unit which allows the head to hang vertically. It works but is a pain in the backside every time you want to do it.

The version I have was the first type he made but I see they are being made of a single piece of sheet now. I can only expect they are just as good.
If you are serious about TV though, you will have to get a sat dish.

You could do this a whole lot more conveniently. See my remote cable adjuster: http://www.manins.net.au/motorhome/TV_aerial.htmlCraig wrote:... And to tell whether the signal is vertically or horizontally polarised, have a look at the antennae on house roofs in the vicinity. There is no point in looking at other RV setups - each seems to have a different idea of where the signal is coming from and how

Alternatively, there are Apps for mobile phones that will guide you. Such as "DVB-T Australia" for Android phones.

Or maybe you could do a goggle (sic) drive by and see what the next suburb does - providing you have internet connection.

Edit: and if you do have internet, why not just download a podcast - then you could zip past the ads.

Experience is a wonderful thing. It helps you recognise a mistake when repeated.

Re: Aerial for Vertical signal.
I did consider doing that modification but the winsig wins hands down for convenience. You simply wind your aerial up as normal.PeterM wrote:You could do this a whole lot more conveniently. Re: Aerial for Vertical signal.
Thanks Craig, I looked at one of those but didn't know if it would actually work.
Thanks Peter, If I was to copy your mod I would have to put that locking cable inside. Love your website, it has been a while since I looked around there.
