Q codes - use a Q-code reader and it usually takes you to a web link. Or it can contain info - such as a name and details.

Tell us more about what sort of device reads these coded apps Jon and what protection is required. I've seen them around quite a bit lately but I've yet to see someone actually use one. I'm guessing it does a link to a website of some type saving the need to do the www. thing but is it risking being dragged off to an infected website by scanning these things into whatever it is that reads them? With so many booby trapped emails and websites about these days even opening a link within an email is asking for trouble so these things look like an invitation to troubled times?
Once it was just a matter of avoiding porn sites, but these days a link at the foot of a news article leading to another interesting looking article can lead to all sorts of hell. Fortunately my computer is fairly well locked down so it just ends up trapped within a site telling me to click here to remove a Trojan or some such crap resulting in a shut down/reboot being required or my anti virus finding something it didn't like and simply locking it out with a warning bar across the bottom of the screen asking if you really want to go into hell and face the wrath of your techo wife
