Not Guilty?

Farm hand was up before the beak charged with stealing a pair of boots from the town store.
The young lawyer assigned to defend him surprised everyone by getting him acquitted.
However, the lad was reluctant to leave the dock.
The lawyer explained that he was free to go.
“I’d prefer to wait until the storekeeper has left.” said the lad.
Puzzled lawyer asked, “For heaven’s sake, why?”
Lad bends over and whispers in his ear, “Coz I’m wearing his boots, that’s why!”
