Posted today on the greynomad site, Toyota ute 4x4 collected the solar panel from a MH travelling on Victoria's Princess Highway near Orbost, a week ago, it flew at least 30 metres into the air before smashing into the windscreen, warning ⚠️ everyone to check that their solar panels are bolted down, fortunately the 68 year old man managed to continue driving straight until able to pull off the road safely.

I've seen large solar panels pop riveted to ally angle using 1/8" rivets. crazy.

It's a bit of a mystery bag isn't it. You must put faith in whatever method someone used to secure stuff to the roof. I saw a pair of panels with the aluminium mounting angles and a fair bit of cable next to the Newell hwy on our last trip home.

But they were actually bolted to your Iveco roll bar, not the ones attached to the 5er roof. Final fix was to drill right through the aluminium and nuts and bolts, the aluminium was so soft the riv-nuts pulled out .. so they were bolted down ;)
If one of the glued down rails on the solar mounting system we use was to come off, it would have the piece of roof with it because the aluminium roof skin used on most caravans and motorhomes is weaker than the glue we use ...... there are 2 rails and a minimum of 4 x 6mm stainless bolts per panel, they aren't coming off without a fight
