Choofers
The great inventive minds have come up with so brilliant modification to the out of date 9kg gas bottle. If you have one you built or bought one ready made, how about a photo or two explaining how well it works and any added features, like an oven or it takes a camp oven and doubles as a fire place after dinner, that sort of thing.
To start it off, here is my creation, the compact turbo choofer
no door, wood or charcoal for cooking goes in the top, 2 V'ed and punched in slots and 2 pieces of pipe welded in the base create a spinning flame front in the bottom to create an even heat for cooking in the camp oven that sits on 4 pieces of angle iron the drop into slots around the upper section. The whole thing knocks apart at the welded ring in the middle, bottom fits into the top and it all fits in a Woolies shopping bag. Made from an out of date 9 kg gas bottle, the camp oven is a "Billabong" spun metal unit.
It also doubles as fire place later in the evening.

Re: Choofers
Looks great Terry, been thinking about a portable type fire 'pit' that can also be used as a cooking tool and doesn't take up much room.
This looks like just what we need, and just what I need another project to finish over Christmas.

Re: Choofers
We have to think up a new name for 'Choofers". With the generation after Baby Boomers , Gen X or something, anyone who smoked dope was called a choofer, as in smoking choof. This was the last time mine got an outing. It's a crappy pic but it has some interesting people in it.

Re: Choofers
for a great choofer check out chapter 14 at this site http://www.free-energy-devices.com make it with a 4 kg bottle inside a 9 kg bottle. Leave the base on the 9 kg bottle and the grass won't be scorched. Works best with kindling size wood.

How cold do you reckon the Queensland residents were then. Bandit still has nightmares about it.Dot wrote:If it is half as cold as it was at that gathering I'm not gunna shave or wax any part of my fat little bod till after the gathering..

Re: Choofers
Mine is made from a 4 kg bottle. has a ring on the top that fits my kettle and a frying pan and I have a piece of spark arresta screen (straight from a steam loco
) for the top when being used as a warming fire. A wok can sit on the top as well.
Another 4 kg bottle is made into an oven for my roasts etc as well as making damper and bread.
Regards
Brian

Re: Choofers
Brian, you need to put a photo up of your choofer with the little gas bottle oven that fits inside, very neat.

Re: Choofers
The choofer camp stove for backpacking hikers that I'm familiar with is named such because of the choofing sound it makes from the pressurised fuel. I've seen descriptions of others also called such.supersparky wrote:We have to think up a new name for 'Choofers"...
Well one of those deserves another. Just wished I'd got one showing the metre high stainless steel truck exhaust chimney. lol... It's a crappy pic but it has some interesting people in it.
Dave's work in progress. Another view. And for my $125 champ. Everything fits inside (including legs) for easy storage - even the billy and holder.
