CPs Cashing In On Pensioners

Post by Greynomad »

Melbourne Herald Sun, Saturday 3/1/15, p51 (Business Section)
"A New Lease On Life" profiles a retired couple with health problems who downsized from a home in Langwarrin to a pre-built house in a Retirement Village. Own the house; lease the land (90 yrs!). Much like C##A's Casino Village morphed from a club-owned project exclusively for motorhomers into the (independently financed; club holding now a minority) Big 4 retirement village, with CARAVAN park attached... softly, softly, catchee monkey. ;)
Article mentions 'many CPs' are selling out to developers who are converting them into retirement communities with pre-builts, while one company prefers to plant them on greenfield sites. And the CPs are crying poor and demanding that councils force us all to jam in like cattle to keep the CPs profitable!
Says current retirement options for low-cost living can cater for only 10% of the 3.3 million Australians currently over 65, and this sector will grow at double the population growth rate. By 2048 the over-65s will hit seven million.
That's only 33 years away! My 101st year - if I don't peg out beforehand... ;)
Regards & God bless,
Ray

But, by 2048 they will need to be at least 70yrs old before they can retire, so the pressure will drop a bit. By 2048 I'd be 93 so I doubt I'll be a member of the 7 million group.
