Nightly Goodnight Everyone

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Dot, I haven't seen anywhere with a free camp near "rip off rock" and nothing here is anywhere near free. Perhaps the " new owners" don't want you to have a cheaper holiday. Wikicamps doesn't show anywhere nearby either, so I reckon it's time to start saving if you want to come up here. Sorry for that news mate.
Great weather, yeah. Too wet for helicopters and not enough water to make the rock scenic. So we didn't get to do the view from the air.
Off to Kings Canyon tomorrow. Tired from wandering around in the rain, so off to bed now. Nighty night xxx
Deborah

Oh bummer, thought there was a freebie a few ks out before the rock Oh well so ends that one as there is no way I will pay $50 upwards to see a rock. Let the foreign tourists pay those prices not us. Anyway it is time for me to start fasting for the U/Sound tomorrow so goodnight everyone x :) .

Free camp at Curtin Springs. About 80k east of the rock. Power available for a fee [free showers] No power free but showers are $3 a go. [2002 prices]

Gonna cost you more than $50 to get out of there! $50 won't cover the premium on fuel. Fill up at Erldunda on the way in where you will get screwed but you might not be gouged at the same time. 250k from Erldunda to Yulara.

Many moons ago (like, 1989) there useter-was a camp just a km or so outside the Ayers Rock NP boundary (as it was then), behind a rest stop with a concrete water tank.
Had to drive over a small embankment (10~12") and down a slope, then park among the Tea-trees, 200m or so from the road. A few clearings where previous campers had chainsawed trees for firewood...
Long time since we've visited The Rock...
like about 20+ years!

I landed at the airstrip in '88, climbed the rock, stuck my toes out the front of my reeboks on the way down then did a loop around The Olgas prior to heading back to The Alice.

I did it about 88. Going down is the hardest part. Cruel on the muscles in front of the shin bone. I bought an "I climbed the Rock" T shirt. Poor quality cloth, though. It has shrunk and doesn't fit me 30 years later.
