Thanks jon good thought. If it is a simple push rod that enters the end of the cylinder and lodges against the piston that would be good. We will see tomorrow. I think I have seen that before so maybe I am worrying about nothing.

Right!! Disconnected the (Fill) hoses at the reservoir, disconnected them at the brake and clutch master cylinders and removed the hoses. Undid the union at the bottom of the clutch master cylinder and attempted to dismount the cylinder. Huge effort to rotate the two nuts which did not appear to turn on the bolts. OK put a spanner on the bolt heads?? No bloody way, whoever built the bus wasn't aware that the cylinder might need to be removed and made it impossible to access the heads. Leave it alone for another day. And I thought that one would be easy. Disconnected the banjo/unions and dismounted the brake master cylinder ok, (the push rod was not secured inside the mc, thanks Jon) moved it to the vise and opened it up, and found it rust free except for one tiny spot. The rubbers were not leaking or anything prior to dismantling so I am a bit ticked off that I pulled it apart. Anyway, off to ABS for new 12mm hose and a kit for the master cylinder. Neither ABS nor the mob at Holden Hill (who deal in the odd-ball and hard to get stuff) has a kit but I can buy a replacement cylinder for $300 odd dollars!!!!!!!! And the hose (got to be resistant) if it can be obtained will be about $80 for 2m !!!!!!! Shit I'm glad I bought this bus.

PS, Can I have my 20 year old body back? Please?

Yep, these old buses are fun hey.
When I had to get the steering box out of mine for reconditioning I found it impossible to get to the 2 top bolts.
I ended up cutting the floor out - was the only way to get them out, the nuts just kept on spinning and no way could I get a spanner on them.

When re-fitting it I made some mods to allow better access and welded the nuts to the brackets.
Might make it possible to get to if I even need to again.

For your cylinder I had my Clutch one re-sleeved with S/S.
They slightly changed the bore size to suit a kit that would fit, might be worth looking into.
It was done by South Glenelg Brake service, but I reckon others would be able to do similar.

Also have you tried Pirtek for your hoses. Been very helpful for me.

Oh, and if you find a way to get the young body back, please share...

Cheers,
Bernie B
I plan to stop procrastinating tomorrow.

Yep, when I did the Isuzu in the Bedford. Everything was designed with the full knowledge that I may have to take it out.

I have only one bolt that gives me grief.... And it's a mongrel. Have to lever the whole engine to release it from a hole.

It's stopped raining, things are better, Mother Father kindly disregard this letter... Went personally to the Holden Hill mob (Power Brakes) (PBR) and talked with the bloke that had yesterday talked with the ABS bloke. I had the master cylinder in my hand and a hose sample, now that made all the difference. Walked away completely satisfied with a kit and some hose, some rubber grease and copper washers, $150. The cylinder is remounted, just need some connections and other stuff and I will be back to the bleeding issue. Phew!!

You should ask Terry how he did the same job on the Mazda!!!
I rolled up at the workshop one day and he had the bullbar off, half of the front panel off including the headlights and had his arms extended inside poor ol' Maz like a gynecologist .......... I just wasn't game to ask what was going on but I can tell you he never ended up with any little Mazda's running around!!! (Only a baby Zook of Rays)
Sounds like you got it licked Bob?

Our RB145 Hino (Ex Homeless) has leaking hoses from the reservoir to either the clutch of the brake M/cyl. The result is brake fluid soaked carpet and the need to regularly top up the reservoir to stop the warming light coming on. At least I'm hoping that is the problem and not that the brake or clutch M/cyl is leaking. It's not a fun job getting either of them out of such a cramped spot ... even getting into the drivers seat is a bit of a squeeze. It would be so much easier if there was a door there to open and snake my way in from outside.

Well Bruce I am still behind, but things are a little better. Went out a couple of hours ago to see what's next but with a 'real feel' of 6 degrees, I gave it a miss. The hose I got is slightly slimmer than the original so I thought it prudent to replace the original spring clamps with screwed. That was todays advance... go to supa cheap. Terry is pretty tall so I can see the difficulty. Terry, I came across some discussion about incorrect hoses and how brake fluid can seep through the material. I have no idea if this is related to your problem of disappearing fluid, but maybe. I had a similar discussion with an aircon engineer who said I had to get a specific type of copper pipe because the gas molecules were small enough to pass through. All above my paygrade.

A job on the back burner at the moment Bob, gotta sort out why the glow plug heater has stopped working and fit a diesel heater before I start fixing things that aren't completely broke
