Fathers Dqy restaurant ripoffs!!!

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Fathers Dqy restaurant ripoffs!!!

Post by Chuck »

Sorright... I've calmed down a bit now...

Yesterday, we attended a family type outing organised by the eldest daughter - Michelle - to match up with her partner John, Michelle's daughter Alicia & her partner Tom - confused yet - who had arranged one of those jump from a plane type thingy attached to someone who knew what to do type of thing.

Anyway, the weather was fantastic, the location was down in Woolongong - or rather 'up' in.... yeah orright...

That part of the day was uneventful - for us on the ground & in the air - but the bad part is coming.

Michelle had organised a booking at a nearby restaurant, right on the beach, for the 8 of us attending... this was done on-line 10 days previously.

When we arrived for lunch we were shown to a nice window table with beach views & a menu at each position. As we began reading the menu it became blatantly obvious that the normal menu was not in play - just this 'Fathers day special'. The special had a number of options, generally 3 courses (small) starting at $79 p/h with the most expensive being seafood obviously at around $180 p/h !!!

Called the waiter over & asked for the normal menu... umm sorry, just this one today... Nah, get the boss man!

He came over & whilst apologetic declined to offer other menu... did say that if there was anyone who could not eat from this menu he would make arrangement to try and satisfy their need.

Michelle stated that when making the booking there was nothing stating a special menu would be in place.

He shrugged his shoulders.

We noticed that at the end of the building there was a take-away section - part of the same business, so we went to check it out & ended up all getting a satisfactory seafood or sandwichy type (euro version) meal in a takeaway container ..... 8 orders for $80... compared to 8 orders for a minimum of $800.

Rippoff... oh yeah!!

Same every time on one of these special occasions, I do not like to eat out at any time as most place are over priced and normally to much food for me. As long as you had a good day with the family that should have over ridden the bad part. Cheers Bear

Would that be the Novatel or the Harbourfront restaurant by any chance? Think yourself lucky you didn't go to Addison's in Shellharbour Village, I think it probably costs just to book, if you need to see the prices you probably shouldn't have gone there in the first place. Just down the road is the Shellharbour Hotel. A wonderful outdoor seating area looking out over the ocean, food Addison's could only dream about and at a price that is always a pleasant surprise .... well that was the way it was when we lived there anyway.
A lot of really good restaurants in the Wollongong/Shellharbour area, but a few really do give the others a bad name. The locals know to avoid them like the plague, but unfortunately out-of-towners get caught by these thieves disguised as "high class" eaterys. These are designed to separate those with more money than sense from their money or those who thing they are some where higher up the social scale than they really are so are too scared to say anything in case they appears to be bogans. At least those of us with a brain know better than to fall for such nonsense.

Dot. I'm sure she will.

RnB. Yep, the family connection was great.

T1. Can't remember the name of the joint but it was only about 100m from the Skydiving building & right on the beach ... will check with Michelle later & put it up here.

Ah yes, the 'goon, not even the locals go there. On the side of a public footy ground, roughly on the banks of Fairy Creek that is so polluted only tourists swim there, when it rains you can end up bogged in the carpark, the water just sites there in pools as can be seen in the wedding photo on their interweb site. It's called the Lagoon because it's on a back filled swamp, mossie heaven.

I went to the Novatel Wollongong for dinner on Saturday 24/8 with son, his girlfriend and my sister. Son had membership which supposedly gave 50% discount but that only applied to two persons. It was a smorgasboard and even with son's discount the bill came to $320 which included only 2 beers and one bottle of wine. Also, we were ushered off the premises at 9pm. We were not happy and as i had agreed to pay I was extremely unhappy.
