Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Bernie I've been wondering the same thing about a capacitor.
I gave up when I decided I didn't know exactly how to do it.
Does your cap have 3 prongs?
Watch out if you charge it because they 'bite' if touched before you discharge it.
David might give us some clues?

Bernie forget the red & black bit. That's for a DC one. AC ones aren't fussy which way. In fact you can charge it up one way & then swap leads & discharge it & then charge up opposite way. Get it? OK, me neither!
To test the capacitor with a multimeter, set the meter to read in the high ohms range, somewhere above 10k and 1m ohms. Touch the meter leads to the corresponding leads on the capacitor, red to positive and black to negative. The meter should start at zero and then moving slowly toward infinity.

Bernie, Bruce, That is the simplest way to test them. Unless you have a capacitor test function on your multi-meter. Most of the high end ones do, and even some of the cheapies. When most capacitors have finished there useful working life the side is blown out of them and it is obvious that it has failed.
I have been trying to ring Bernie, but he isn't answering.
Cheers
David
