What is the recommended time the hot water anode thing should be replaced?

Re: when to change anode
Mine has been lasting for a bit more than a year with Adelaide water.
In bore water country it will probably be less than 6 months, so it all depends on the water Ph level.
Cheers,

Re: when to change anode
Dot, are you referring to the MH HWS or the large house one?

Thanks every one, It is for the bus George. Have just ordered one so that settles that.
When the house one stuffs up we shall replace the electric one with the instant gas unit.

Re: when to change anode
The anode in our 200L house unit lasted 20 years and the HWS is still going strong, 24 years.

Re: when to change anode
Pays to be careful which anode you get sold. (IMO)
For soft water use, which is what virtually every caravanner or motorhome user fill their tanks with, it's best to use magnesium anodes rather than aluminium or zinc.
A quick hit with a grinder or cutting disc will soon tell you if it IS really mag.
If it looks like a helicopter in Vietnam dropping missile attracting fireworks you'll know you got a good one!!!
Hands up who tried burning Mag. in chemistry in high school?
