Still got plenty left on that one, a quick wire brush, drive the remaining anode up the steel rod till the bits meet, cut the excess rod off and put it back in. The worst one I've removed the steel rod had even rusted away often just have the steel rod left and no sign of the anode at all. Hose the tank out via the anode fitting and use the stell lod to scratch around on the bottom of the tank to loosen up the settled rubbish. Change the filter after a day or so if you have one on the hot water or remove the strainer on the kitchen sink spout to get all the disturbed rubbish out of the strainer. Often the first time since new the tank has been cleaned and bits of plastic pipe and all sorts of garbage comes out.

Dot, did you point out to George the need to hose all the white gunk out of the bottom of the tank. I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't the for the comments on this thread.

Yes he did David, he even made a special tool to clean the inside of the walls.
