Australian Trivia Only

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Macca,
Close, but no cigar! :?
Billy McMahon succeeded Gorton when Gorton survived a Confidence Motion in the Liberal Party room by one vote, then resigned saying it really wasn't a resounding vote of confidence.
What I'm after is the name & position of the person who precipitated that vote, (it wasn't Billy) and what they did to cause it. 8-)

HINT: It didn't involve the nightclub visit....
(so what else did Macca suggest? And who would have been responsible for that?)

HMMMMmmmmmmm.......

Was the question too hard?
Or is everyone too busy elsewhere to go rooting around the history books Mr Google/Wikipedia? 8-)

The info is there... you just have to read down a fair way into Gorton's history to find it.

Now there!! That's a BIG HINT! Innit?

HHHMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

It seems no-one has the stamina to read to the end of John Gorton's political history on Wikipedia!
(Boring as watching cement dry, I know!)

The answer is:

Defence Minister, Malcolm Fraser.
He resigned his Ministerial position saying he had no confidence in Gorton as PM, because he was equivocating about sending more troops to Vietnam.
He and Billy McMahon stood for Liberal leader, and Billy won.

Probably most of the party thought Malcolm was too ambitious for the good of the party, and chose second-best just to nark him.

Next Question:

If it's 5:00pm in Sydney, what time is it on the Moon?

:P

Nice try Steve, but Bruce has it.

Not sure if it was a wild guess, but you're correct, Bruce.

Reason: NASA made an unilateral decision that, as Mission Control was in Houston and the launch pad was in Florida (both on US Eastern Standard Time) that all moon landings would keep US Eastern Standard Time.
