Electric car lovers...

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

What’s the towing capacity of a Kona?
Are there any 4WD EVs which will tow a 3 tonne caravan??

Are we soon to see grey nomads in EVs towing their vans down the highways & byways??

My 2nd car was a four-door BMC Mini.

Yes. They DID make a 4dr Mini... they called it a “panelvan:lol:
(Two barn doors at the rear.)

As a joke, I got a mechanic mate to weld up a tube bracket to attach under the rear, with eight fake tailpipes & fed the genuine exhaust through the tube so they all smoked.

The Rivian https://rivian.com/r1s/ also available as a ute. To be released in Australia either late this yr or early next yr, has a 3.5 tonne towing capacity that can be increased to 4.5 ton apparently. 650km range on a charge and eats Dodge Rams for breakfast with 750hp and 0 - 100km/h in 3 secs
8-)

With our current backward thinking govt who offer zero incentives for electric vehicles, probably about the price of the equivalent Dodge Ram but less than a Silverado. But who knows, they might even land it here under the $100,000 mark and the promise the govt made of waving the luxury vehicle tax for electric vehicles, it would be cheaper than both of the nearest contenders.
They mention a starting price of US$72,500 so ......

Met a bloke today who had a new tesla3
His justification for buying it was that servicing largely consisted of replacing tyres and wipers.
He is a very happy man. No range anxiety either. Macca stores in WA all have charging points.

Well, maybe the horse and buggy, they still have enthusiasts who spend huge $$ keeping them in top condition. All caravan parks are also EV charging points with the 15 amp power points. Not a fast charge but still an overnight charge. One of the things you can tie in with dumping the black and grey water, refilling the water tanks, doing the washing and a long shower

Had a look at the Rivian.
PRE-ORDER now? Is it beyond prototype stage yet?
Even if so, $75,000 is a tad over our budget. 😳
By about $40,000! More than 100% over budget.
Looks like we’ll be using ICE vehicles for a while yet.
Unless the government sees the light & offers a bl**dy big subsidy.
The aerial porcine squadron should appear soon ...

What ICE powered vehicle has a 3.5 tonne towing capacity and that sort of power to pull it new from the showroom for $35,000?

Just found this in a 5sec Google search
Toyota only offered one option on the 2019 Land Cruiser, rear seat entertainment for $2,200, and it comes along for the ride here, too. A regular 2020 Land Cruiser is set to start at $86,710.Aug 1, 2019

Holden’s Colorado was under consideration until a recent statement from GM.
A year-or-three old Nissan Navara might come close to budget...
At this stage it’s in daydream territory. After my ribs are sorted (maybe 12mths) we might revive the plan...

Now might be the time to buy the Colorado, Ray. They will be greatly discounted with long warranty. And, by the way, do the maths: You are how old? You will continue to drive for how many years? Excellent reliability record.
