Jon, you don't have to be using the oven. Some ovens have a 415v supply requirement will carry on a bit if supply goes out of spec.
I think George's provider has an issue with a tap changer on a transformer somewhere in his supply line.

The oven wasn't being used and besides I don't use the oven. It just started beeping because of lack of power.
Another Ausgrid team arrived this afternoon with their truck, replaced junction box/fuse at entry point to property. They are going to suggest that a meter be installed to record a weeks info. Now I have to play around to get the oven going again before Julie gets home.

George, did you have a major type electrical storm before all this power stuff occurred? Usually this type of problem only occurs after a direct hit on a switch yard nearby. To kill your meter, it is usually a direct hit on your local distribution line. You are probably lucky that you didn't lose half the appliances in your house.
