If only...

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

If only...

If I had some jam

T1,
IF we could cross the SA border, could you help us?
Our 4YO Dyson vacuum cleaner is powered by a 26v lithium battery.
This week, it has decided to go on strike. Up until then we could do the whole house on one charge, with power to spare. It now runs for 5 minutes, then requires an hour or two on the charger before giving us another 5 minutes.

Dyson said the charge to fix it would start at $80, depending on where the problem lies. Alternatively, we were offered a $100 discount on an updated similar vac of slightly better specifications which would carry a 2yr warranty.
We have accepted the update offer, but were wondering if the old one is fixable to carry in Girt.
Once the travel restrictions are lifted, would it be worth the trip to SA for you to have a go at it? Or should we just consign it to the recycle bin? (A pity, given what they cost.)
Regards & God bless,
Ray

Can the offending battery be removed? Or is it a built in thing? Might be easier to send it to us rather than travelling with it, the most likely cause is a failed cell and that can be replaced, the battery rebalanced and all as good as new.
We fix quite a few bike batteries that way and every so often there is one that is just tired but still has a few good cells we can liberate and use for repairing other battery packs. The 20v lithium batteries that Aldi sell area good source of replacement cells as well, we wait for them to go one clear out special and buy up a few for stock.

T1,
I've had a look at the battery casing, and it looks like the parts snap together. Can't see any tabs or gaps.
I'm nervous about trying to 'un-snap' them, as they might be designed as non-un-snappable. :?

As it still functions - albeit for a limited time - I fear that poking around with a screwdriver might render it u/s.

Yeah, well, anything associated with the US is in trouble at the moment so ya don't want that eh  The problem will be when that failing cell fails completely. Hopefully it won't take out the balancer and BMS with it. Is it possible to cut the wires coming out of the battery in a way that you could easily rejoin them later?

Ray, we have replaced the battery on our approx 5 year old. Dyson Stick Vacuum.

This You Tube video shows how to remove the battery.

https://youtu.be/ltINZ-jSnPo

We replaced with a knock off battery which did not last. Bit the bullet and bought the genuine replacement for about $85 I think.
Cheers
