Most which run directly off 12v are the 'Travel Cpaps' These are small, but tend to be noisier than home machines & often more expensive. The well known 'home' machines like Resmed are excellent machines but are not the most efficient, whilst they can be run from an inverter, internally they convert to 24 v - so some losses involved there, & if a heated hose is required together with a humidifier they can suck a lot of battery power - some up to between 60 & 90 Ah per night, depending on settings.
My Cpap is a home model, but has a small footprint, about the size of a 2 litre ice cream tub (with humidifier) & only uses around 20Ah per night, or 26Ah per night with humidifier on. It's technology makes the need for a heated hose redundant. Unfortunately you have to purchase from the USA, as the model is not sold in Australia. Devilbiss Intellipap 2 (DV64). I've been using mine both at home & on the road for around 2.5 years & recommend it. Peter (of Peter & Sandra) who posts here from time to time has had his longer - it was him who recommended it to me.
Terry T1's wife Margaret also has a Devilbiss, but the model which is sold in Australia. It is the same size & just as good except that it doesn't use the 'Pulse Dose' humidification, so probably uses a bit more power if used with a heated hose, but still runs directly off 12v .
When first diagnosed I used a Resmed machine (hired) for the first month - a very good machine, but the Devilbiss is just as quiet, cheaper to buy & uses far less power. Only downside with the Devilbiss is that the sleep data is more limited unless you use the very dated & clunky Devilbiss softeware intended for 'clinicians'. I got my AHI score sorted to an acceptable level with the hired Resmed, & then was able to fine tune the Devilbiss myself wjen I got it, & my nightly readings on the machine have remained consistentlty within acceptable levels since. My machine has also endured a lot of corrugations & rough roads over the past couple of years without problem.
In case you are not already aware Cpaps are a big money maker in Australia, with sleep clinics 'preying'on the newly diagnosed to emcourage dependence. If you can be bothered check out The Apnea Board, a US based forum, but with a number of Aussie members. Its a great resource for those who want to manage without all the added costs of the 'middlemen'. http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/index.php

Re: Good morning daily
Agree with Cuppa's comments and the Devilbiss Intellipap II (DV64). Mine lives in the Oka 24/7 and is used when travelling as I have a second Phillips Respironics CPAP at home.
As the Phillips machine has just passed 10,000 hours and is getting a bit noisy I decided to buy another machine. As Cuppa said there is a huge markup on CPAP gear compared to overseas but as things are hard to ship at the moment I went looking locally.
It now appears that the Devilbiss Intellipap II is sold here in Oz as the Intellipap Blue and I was able to buy a very lightly used machine from a pharmacy that used to hire them out but has ceased doing so with the current restrictions. It is as new and came with all standard accessories at a fraction of the new price and in as new condition.
Sandra reckons it is much quieter than the Phillips machine and peace has been restored in the bedroom
))
Whatever you end up buying make sure it is an automatic machine so it can vary the airflow as your needs change whilst asleep. A fixed pressure machine can't do that and you will find that sometimes it is too much and other times not enough. Also make sure that it has an SD card or has the capability to download data so you can keep an eye on your stats.
As Cuppa said also buy a machine that runs directly on 12v especially if free camping for extended periods.
Resmed machine despite being an Australian company have a an exemption by the ACCC to price fix and the same machines can be bought from overseas are are less than half the price than here even with shipping. There is no import duty or GST on CPAP machines bought overseas.
Look at secondwind.com for both secondhand late model machines as well as new and I bought my original Intellipap II from respshop.com.
Ebay is a good source for masks and spare parts for them.
I use a Phillips Dreamwear nasal mask as I have a beard so cannot wear a full face mask, it has the added advantage that the hose comes off the top of your head rather than in front of your face so I can easily sleep on my side or even face down.

I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Re: Good morning daily
Looks like they might be Bruce, probably for the same reasons the pharmacy where I bought my "new" one from, people reluctant to buy anything used in the medical line in case of contamination.

Re: Good morning daily
Good morning all, just had a yummo breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast. We had bacon and eggs yesterday. I think Bernie has started a Sunday trend. It is another beautiful sunny morn here at Chateau Lockdown, but it will get cold later. Currently 10 but feels like 6 deg.
Bob, I will get Bandit to have an extra walk today, so you can rest up. He doesn't mind walking, but he isn't enjoying the cold that much.
Cuppa, how is Gina going with her reschooling? She seems to be responding to your care and attention.
