Australian Trivia Only

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

David - you went the wrong way.
It was a cane harvester, there were other cane harvesters about, this one was different in that it was single row machine. Whereas with the bigger Massey Ferguson harvesters had to manually cut rows of cane out if wanted to go down the centre of a paddock. I was still in school at the time and was impressed that a guy sitting in his shed down Ingham way came up with the idea and brought it to production - it was known as the Don Mizzi
Your go again I guess

Eddy, you go again. I didn't get it right. I just found a story about Lawrence Mizzi in an Ingham newspaper. Some guys are still using one from 46 years ago. Great question. Keep it up.
Cheers

Eddy, a big stab in the dark, but here goes. Kalgoorlie/Boulder WA. The main st where the working girls used to hang out, maybe Hannan St. And the Superpit.
Are any of them close?
Cheers

To keep the pot simmering while Eddy is MIA,
try this one:

What is a Patagorang, and what is the geographic origin of the word?

Warning: Mr Wikipedia doesn’t know. :?

Ray, I believe it is the word the aboriginal people used to the kangaroo. Not sure if it was to the botanist Joseph Banks or to Capt Cook. Dont know if it was at Botany Bay or Cooktown either. But will guess at Botany Bay as I reckon there were more roo's down that way.

David,
You are correct.
Can't fault your logic.

"Patagorang" was the name the aborigines of Botany Bay gave to the kangaroo. It is believed that the word "Kangaroo" actually meant "a large, unidentified animal" or "I don't know", as during initial contact, when the colonists of the First Fleet were trying to understand their vocabulary, the aborigines used it to describe cows, horses and goats the colonists brought with them, as well as the big-footed marsupial which the colonists gestured towards rather vaguely.*
As the aborigines also used the same word when (then) Leiutenant Cook tried to converse with them in his contacts at various points along the East coast and especially in his rather lengthy sojourn on the Endeavour River doing repairs, my money is on the latter meaning. I suspect they had no idea what he was asking them, and responded "I don't know."

Over to you, David!
